What you can expect from your long-distance move with Lion Umzüge

Personal advice and clear planning

To begin with, we talk to you about your wishes, special requirements and dates. During an on-site survey we clarify the volume, access and any delicate items. On this basis we draw up a transparent schedule that you can view and adjust at any time.

How your long-distance move works

Our structured process makes your long-distance move easy to follow and plan. You know exactly which steps we will carry out together.

  1. Enquiry and appointment for an on-site survey to assess the scope of the move.
  2. Individual planning tailored to your timing requirements.
  3. Proper packing and protection of fragile items.
  4. Dismantling of large pieces of furniture and professional stowing in the cargo area.
  5. Safe transport between Berlin and Rostock with proper load securing.
  6. Unloading, placement and, if required, reassembly at your destination.
  7. Joint final check and handover of your furnishings.

Transport and safe handling

Long-distance transport requires careful load planning and secure packing. We use suitable protective materials and dedicated transport equipment to minimise movement during the journey. This way your belongings reach their destination in the best possible condition.

Special services for special requirements

If you need additional services such as professional packing of delicate artwork, transport of large appliances or temporary storage, we offer flexible solutions. Let us know your requirements early so that the planning takes every detail into account.

Practical tips for your long-distance move

Start sorting and labelling boxes in good time. Set aside a small package with important documents, medication and everyday essentials. Label furniture and boxes by room – this makes settling in at your new home much easier.

From Berlin to the Baltic Sea: moving to Rostock

Around 230 kilometres separate Berlin and Rostock, via the A24 and the A19. In normal traffic this is a journey of just under three hours for our lorry. That is why we can usually move a two- or three-room flat in a single day: loading in the morning, driving at midday, unloading in the afternoon. For larger households, or if you can only move in the following day, we plan for two days.

Residential areas in Rostock

In the Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt and the city centre there are many period buildings from the Gründerzeit era, often without a lift. In the Südstadt and the large residential areas in the north-west such as Lütten Klein or Evershagen, prefabricated tower blocks dominate. In Warnemünde, right on the Baltic coast, the streets are narrow and packed with visitors in summer – there, the move should ideally not take place on a weekend in high season. Tell us exactly where you are moving to, and we will plan the date and vehicle accordingly.

Weather and season

On the coast the weather is changeable, and wind is a factor when we carry sofas or mattresses from the lorry into the house. That is why we protect upholstered furniture with film and blankets, and boxes stay in the vehicle until the last moment. In winter we also expect icier roads and allow more time for the journey.

Preparing for your move to Rostock

  • Apply for a no-parking zone in Rostock from the Hanseatic City
  • Let us organise the no-parking zone in Berlin
  • Label boxes by room
  • Empty cellar storage and bicycle rooms in good time
  • Note the meter readings at both addresses

Details about no-parking zones in the capital can be found on our No-Parking Zone Berlin page.

When only part of the household moves

Not everyone moves to the Baltic coast with all their furniture. Students, weekend commuters or people furnishing a holiday flat often only need a few pieces of furniture and boxes. In that case a part-load or a mini move can be the more affordable solution.

Costs

The price depends on the volume, the carrying distances, assembly work and whether one or two days are needed. An explanation of the cost factors can be found under Moving Company Berlin Costs.

Arriving in Rostock

Within two weeks of moving in, register at the local district office (Ortsamt) or citizens’ office. After that, nothing stands in the way of your first stroll along the city harbour.

Long-distance move to the Baltic: route, arrival and everyday life in Rostock

Rostock is the largest city in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and lies around 230 kilometres north of Berlin. Many people move there for their studies, a job at the port or in research, or simply to be close to the sea. Here we describe how the move is organised and what awaits you in Rostock.

The route via the A19

From Berlin you take the A24 towards Hamburg and then, from the Wittstock/Dosse interchange, the A19 north to Rostock. The route is usually clear; only in the holiday season do traffic jams build up at weekends, when many people head for the Baltic coast. With a driving time of just over three hours for a lorry, the move can be done in one day; for large households we plan two days.

Registration at the Ortsamt

In Rostock you register at one of the district offices (Ortsämter) of the Hanseatic and University City. The deadline is two weeks after moving in. Bring your ID and the landlord’s confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). If you move to Warnemünde, you can use the local Ortsamt there.

Neighbourhoods between the old town and the sea

The Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorstadt, or KTV for short, is the student and nightlife district with period buildings and pubs. The Stadtmitte and the Östliche Altstadt offer renovated houses close to the city harbour. Warnemünde lies directly on the beach and is particularly popular. In Lütten Klein, Evershagen or Lichtenhagen there are large housing estates from GDR times with lower rents. For your move this means: narrow staircases and scarce parking are typical in the KTV, while the newer estates have lifts but long carrying distances.

High season in Warnemünde

If you move to Warnemünde in summer, expect tourists, busy streets and closed-off areas. Things are particularly hectic on days when cruise ships are in port, as well as during the Hanse Sail in August. A move outside these periods is far more relaxed. We will help you find a suitable date.

Wind and weather on the coast

A strong wind often blows on the Baltic coast. When unloading, we secure lightweight items and protect furniture from rain and spray with film. We never leave boxes unprotected on the pavement. Plan weatherproof clothing for moving day.

Costs at a glance

The costs depend on volume, floors, carrying distances and additional services. The route is shorter than to many other long-distance destinations, which keeps the price in check. If you only have a few pieces of furniture, you can save with a part-load.

Studying at the University of Rostock

The University of Rostock is one of the oldest universities in the Baltic region, and many students move to the city at the start of the semester in October. Halls of residence and flat-share rooms are snapped up quickly at that time, and removal companies are fully booked too. If you are moving into a room in the KTV or the Südstadt, you usually don’t need a large lorry. A small van or a part-load is enough, and the costs remain manageable. Get in touch early if your semester is about to start.

If you are moving back from Rostock to Berlin, you have also come to the right place. We plan the return journey just as carefully as the outward one.

Furniture for your holiday flat on the coast

Not every transport to Rostock is a complete move. Berliners often furnish a holiday flat in Warnemünde or a second home in the region and only need a few pieces of furniture, beds and kitchen equipment. We collect the items from several addresses in Berlin, for example from the furniture store and from your home, and assemble everything on site. If the season is already under way, we schedule the delivery so that guests are not disturbed.
