Stress-free moving – individual and transparent

Planning made easy

Clear preparation reduces the rush on moving day. Together we clarify which furniture is coming along, which items need to be packed and what the access conditions are on site. This gives you an overview and avoids unnecessary trips.

Flexible moving options

You decide what support you want: transport only, additional help with carrying or complete organisation including packing and furniture assembly. We advise you on sensible options without pushing unnecessary services.

Packing and protection

Valuable or fragile items need special protection. We give tips on how to prepare electronics, books and kitchen utensils properly and, on request, supply suitable materials. This ensures good protection during transport.

Shared flat and halls of residence moves

Moves into shared flats or halls of residence have their own rules: narrow corridors, house rules and varying door widths. We plan the order of carrying, agree times with you and make sure items are transported carefully so that the stairwell and furniture remain undamaged.

How your student move works

A structured process creates security. Below you can see how we typically proceed; we adapt the order to your wishes and the local conditions.

  • Preliminary consultation or on-site check, individual planning and quote
  • Agreement on services and date, preparation of your belongings
  • Provision of packing materials, professional packing
  • Transport and careful carrying, assembly of large furniture in the new room
  • Final check and handover of the living space to you

Tips for a smooth move

Small measures make the process easier: label boxes clearly by room and contents, keep important documents and small personal items separate, and let your flatmates know about any dismantling or assembly you need. This saves you time when unpacking.

For special requirements, such as bulky furniture or several stops, we work out practical solutions together. Our goal is for you to settle quickly into your new everyday life after the move.

Student move in Berlin: affordable, fast, stress-free

Students move more often than almost anyone else: into halls of residence, from halls into a shared flat, from one shared flat to the next and at some point into their first flat of their own. The move is usually small, the budget tight and the date shortly before the start of the semester. Our student move is designed precisely for this.

Typical routes in Berlin

Many students live near the big universities in Dahlem, Mitte, Charlottenburg, Adlershof or Wedding – or in districts where rooms in shared flats are still affordable. A move from Neukölln to Wedding can sometimes take longer driving the lorry through city traffic than carrying. We therefore plan realistically and give you a fixed price in advance.

How to save money

  • Pack everything into boxes yourself before we arrive
  • Dismantle simple furniture yourself and put screws in labelled bags
  • Choose a weekday date instead of the end of the month
  • Move together with flatmates if you are heading in the same direction
  • Sort things out: what you do not need, you do not have to pay for

Observe the rules of your halls of residence

Many halls of residence have fixed handover times, rules for using the lift and sometimes rules on when furniture may be carried through the corridor. Check this with the administration beforehand and let us know. Then the date will work.

Moving to another city

If your studies continue in Leipzig, Münster or Munich, a part load is often the cheapest solution. For moves within Berlin with few belongings, it is worth taking a look at the mini move.

Costs

Billing is based on vehicle, movers and time. You can find general information under moving company Berlin costs. You can get boxes via our page on moving boxes.

Shared flat move: when several people move at the same time

In shared flats, it is rarely just one person who moves. Sometimes the whole flat moves together into a new flat, sometimes two flatmates move to different places. It is important to clarify beforehand what belongs to whom. Otherwise, furniture, kitchen appliances or the washing machine bought together will cause discussions on moving day. Label boxes with your name and the destination room so that we can assign everything correctly.

Moving at the start of the semester

Around the start of the semester in April and October, a particularly large number of students move in Berlin. Dates are booked up more quickly then. Enquire early, even if the exact date has not yet been fixed. If you are flexible, it is easier to find a date during the week.

From your parents’ home to Berlin

Many students are moving into their own flat or a room in a shared flat for the first time, often from another city. Then it is not just about transport within Berlin, but about the route from the family home to the capital. A part load or a small long-distance move is suitable for this, depending on the volume and date.

Do not forget to register your new address

Students also have to register at the Bürgeramt (citizens’ office) within two weeks of moving in – in Berlin you can do this at any Bürgeramt. Also remember to give your new address to your university, health insurance, bank and the BAföG office.

Studies, time abroad, subletting

Student life is mobile. A semester abroad, an internship in another city or a master’s degree after the bachelor’s bring moves that are not always conventional. Here are a few solutions from our experience.

Semester abroad: putting furniture into storage

Anyone going abroad for one or two semesters often does not want to keep their room. But they do not want to sell their furniture either. In that case, storage is a good solution. We collect your things, store them and bring them to your new flat when you return. Pack the boxes so that they can still be easily identified after months, and make a list. Find out about our storage in Berlin in advance.

Subletting

Many students sublet their room while they are away. In that case, the furniture stays in the room and only personal belongings are cleared away. A small transport takes boxes to a cellar or to friends. Check with your landlord beforehand whether subletting is permitted.

What really needs to go into your first room

You need less for your first room of your own than you think. A bed, a desk, a chair, a shelf and a wardrobe are enough to start with. Kitchen equipment is usually already available in shared flats. Better to bring less and buy what is really missing later. This saves space in the van and in the room.

Broadcasting licence fee in a shared flat

The broadcasting licence fee (Rundfunkbeitrag) is paid per flat, not per person. In a shared flat, only one person pays; the others can deregister using that person’s contribution number or not register at all. Anyone receiving BAföG and not living with their parents can apply for an exemption.

Moving during the exam period

Tenancy agreements often end at the end of the month, and exams take place in February or July. When the two coincide, help is particularly valuable. Pack in small stages and leave the carrying and driving to us. That leaves more time for studying.

With friends and with us

Many students move with friends and only book us for the heavy items, such as the washing machine, fridge or a heavy sofa. This is a good mix: affordable and still safe for backs and furniture.

Important for all options: register at the Bürgeramt within two weeks of moving in, even if you only live in Berlin for one semester.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book individual services only, for example if I just need help with carrying?

Yes. You choose exactly the services you need — from carrying only to assembly and complete support including packing. We put together the right package.

What is the best preparation if the new room is very small?

Before the move, reduce your belongings to the essentials, measure larger pieces of furniture and let us know about any special features. We help with planning so that furniture can be transported and set up efficiently.

How much does a student move in Berlin cost?

A room in a shared flat or a small studio flat can often be moved in a few hours with one van and two movers – and the price is correspondingly manageable. You receive a fixed price in advance. If you pack yourself and help carry, you save even more. Guide prices under moving company Berlin costs.

What does a student move with Lion Umzüge include?

A van with two movers, carrying and transport and, on request, dismantling and reassembly of bed, desk and shelves. You can buy or rent boxes from us, and we also store furniture during a semester abroad.

How quickly can a student move be scheduled?

Around the start of the semester in April and October, many dates go quickly, so three to four weeks’ lead time is worthwhile. At other times, a student move can often be arranged within a few days.

Can I combine several services for a student move?

Yes. You can add packing service, assembly service for a loft bed and wardrobe, clearance of old furniture and storage during a semester abroad – or just individual modules if friends help with the carrying.

How are my belongings insured during a student move?

For student moves, too, the German Commercial Code limits our liability to 620 euros for each cubic metre occupied. For a laptop, instrument or camera, it is worth checking your own household contents insurance or your parents’ policy.
