Moving company Berlin Tegel – between the lake, the old village centre and a new neighbourhood

Tegel lies in the district of Reinickendorf and is known to many people mainly because of the former airport. Those who live here appreciate something else: the proximity to Lake Tegel and Tegel Forest, the old village centre of Alt-Tegel with the Greenwichpromenade, and a mix of apartment blocks, housing estates and detached houses. New flats are also being built on the former airport site. For us, this means varied moves with very different access routes.

Alt-Tegel and Berliner Straße

Around the Gorkistraße pedestrian zone and Berliner Straße, it is busy during the day. Buses, delivery traffic and shoppers share the space. For flats in this area, we recommend a no-parking zone and an early start. The side streets are quieter, but parking spaces are scarce there in the evenings, too.

Housing estates and detached houses

Towards Konradshöhe, Heiligensee and around the lake, there are many houses with gardens. There is usually enough space for the van here, but paths across properties and stairs to the cellar and upper floor need to be taken into account. In Borsigwalde and on the border with Wittenau, there are estate houses with narrow staircases where large furniture only fits through when dismantled. We record all of this during the survey.

New builds and house rules

New residential complexes often have rules for moves: fixed times, registration with the management, protection for the lift and hallways. We make sure these requirements are met and bring protective covering material with us. If you are among the first tenants of a building, several moves may take place on the same day – in that case, we coordinate the times with the management.

Who moves with us in Tegel

  • Families moving from the city centre to be close to the lake and forest
  • Senior citizens moving from a house into a flat in the village centre
  • First occupants of the new flats around the former airport site
  • Tenants moving within Reinickendorf, for example to Hermsdorf or Frohnau

Checklist for your move in Tegel

  • Clarify whether the van can park in the driveway or on the street
  • For flats on Berliner Straße, apply for the no-parking zone in good time
  • Go through the cellar and loft, and prepare garden tools
  • For new builds, ask the property management about the moving rules
  • Label boxes with room names so that everything ends up in the right place at the destination

Costs and planning

As with any move, the costs depend on volume, floors, carrying distances and route. A house with a garden and cellar means more work than a two-room flat with a lift. That is why we calculate after a survey and give you a fixed price. You can save by sorting things out before the move, packing boxes yourself and choosing a date in the middle of the month. If you do not want to take everything with you, you can hand over old furniture to us for disposal at the same time.

A note on access: via the A111, Tegel is well connected to the city motorway. This is an advantage for moves towards Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg; for routes to the south-east, we allow more time.

As a moving company in Berlin Tegel, we also operate in Reinickendorf and Spandau. You will find guide prices on the page Moving Company Berlin Costs.

Around Lake Tegel, the Borsig Tower and the new urban quarter

Tegel is changing. Since the airport closed, new residential and commercial space has been developed on the former site, and a lot has happened around the Borsig Tower in recent years. At the same time, with Alt-Tegel, the Greenwichpromenade and the housing estates around the lake, the area remains a place where many people have lived for decades. This mix of old and new is reflected in the moves we carry out here.

Living by the water

On Lake Tegel and along the Tegeler Fließ stream, there are houses with plots of land on which quite a lot has accumulated over the years. Boating accessories, garden tools and camping equipment often end up in the shed. For the move, it helps if you decide in advance what comes along. During the survey, our team estimates the volume and also takes the garage, loft and cellar into account.

Tegel-Süd and the large housing estates

In Tegel-Süd and in the residential complexes along Waidmannsluster Damm, there are apartment buildings with and without lifts. A lift makes the move easier if it is big enough. Many older lifts cannot take a full-length mattress or an upright fridge. In that case, we carry the bulky items via the stairs and use the lift for boxes. This saves effort and time.

Traffic around the A111

Tegel is well connected to the city motorway via the A111. This often makes moves to other districts quicker than many people think. A bottleneck, on the other hand, is Berliner Straße in Alt-Tegel with its pedestrian zone, tram terminus and buses. Anyone living there almost always needs a special permit or a no-parking zone in a side street for the move. During the survey, we check where the van can best be parked.

Senior citizens in Tegel

Many older people live in Tegel who, after decades, move from their house or large flat into a smaller, barrier-free flat. We plan such moves without rushing, help with sorting things out and set up the furniture in the new flat so that walkways remain clear. You can read more about this on our page on senior moves in Berlin.

If you are moving to Tegel

People who move from the city centre to Tegel are often looking for more greenery and more peace and quiet. At the same time, everyday life changes: longer journeys to work, different shopping options, a new citizens’ office (Bürgeramt). For the move itself, it is important that the new flat is viewed once before moving day. Then we know how the route from the van to the door runs and whether large furniture fits through the hallway and stairwell. You have two weeks after moving in to register with the Bürgeramt.

The same applies on the Greenwichpromenade: the lakeside paths are closed to delivery traffic. If you live in one of the houses there, we clarify access in advance.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book my move?

Plan as early as possible so that we can schedule suitable dates and equipment. For short-notice requests, we check availability and offer possible alternatives.

How do you protect delicate furniture and works of art?

Delicate items are individually packed and secured. On request, we use special padding materials and sturdier packaging so that nothing slips or gets damaged during transport.

What does a move in Berlin-Tegel cost?

Whether it is a rented flat in Tegel-Süd, a house in Konradshöhe or a flat in Alt-Tegel: costs arise from volume, floor, carrying distances and additional services. Guide prices are given on Moving Company Berlin Costs.

Do I need a no-parking zone in Tegel?

In Alt-Tegel and on Berliner Straße, usually yes. In quiet residential streets near Tegel Forest, the driveway is often enough. We take a look and apply for the zone if necessary – see No-Parking Zone Berlin.

How early should I book my move in Tegel?

For Tegel, four to eight weeks is ideal. In residential complexes with a lift, we coordinate the date with the property management. Short-notice moves on weekdays are often possible too.

How are my belongings insured when moving in Tegel?

We are liable under the German Commercial Code (HGB), i.e. up to 620 euros per cubic metre of load space required. You are better off insuring high-quality electronics or antiques with a separate transport insurance.

How do I get a quote for my move in Tegel?

Get in touch via the contact form or call us (030 612 964 73). We come to Tegel for the survey at no cost to you.
