We value clear communication that respects agreed dates, so that you know from the start how your move will go.
Our services

On request, we help with dismantling and reassembling your furniture. Every service is agreed with you in advance so that nothing is left to chance.
How your long-distance move works
- Initial consultation: clarifying your wishes, recording access conditions and taking an inventory.
- Quote & planning: agreeing the services together and fixing the key logistical points.
- Preparation: protection and packing, and dismantling bulky furniture if necessary.
- Transport: safe loading, avoiding weak points and driving to the destination region.
- Unloading & assembly: placing your furniture and a final inspection with you on site.

Preparation and packing tips
Structured preparation reduces stress on moving day. Label boxes by room and make a simple inventory list. Use sturdy boxes for heavy items and soft bags for textiles. Fragile items should be doubly protected and clearly marked. Doing small repairs before packing avoids surprises later.
Transport and handover
We make sure delivery can be planned: agreeing the drop-off point, access conditions and the equipment needed. At the destination we pay attention to careful unpacking and neat placement of your furniture. If there are special requirements — such as narrow stairwells or temporary parking restrictions — we discuss them together in advance.
What customers often ask us before the move
Does Lion Umzüge help with customs questions or import formalities for Croatia? We coordinate the transport and give general advice based on our experience. However, you should clarify specific legal or customs-related questions with a specialist adviser. This ensures that all formalities are completed correctly.
Can Lion Umzüge assemble furniture on site in Croatia? Yes, on request we plan the dismantling before transport and the reassembly in your new home. Please tell us the scope of the services you would like when planning, so that we can take the right equipment and materials into account.

Moving to Croatia: request a quote

Moving Berlin–Croatia: from the mainland to the islands
From Berlin it is around 1,000 kilometres to Zagreb, via the Czech Republic and Austria or via Bavaria, Austria and Slovenia. To the coast at Rijeka it is a similar distance, to Split about 1,400 and to Dubrovnik around 1,600 kilometres. Depending on the destination, we plan two to four days. Since Croatia joined the eurozone and the Schengen area, crossing the border has become much easier.
Moving to an island
Anyone moving to a Croatian island has to plan for the ferry. Connections are very busy in high season, and lorries have their own fares and sometimes need reservations. We therefore prefer to plan such moves outside the summer months. On the islands the roads are often narrow and the villages densely built – sometimes reloading onto a smaller vehicle is necessary.
Formalities
- No customs duty on household goods within the EU
- Deregistration at the Bürgeramt (citizens’ office) in Berlin
- Registering your residence in Croatia within the deadlines there
- Personal identification number (OIB) for contracts and authorities
Holiday home or main residence
Not everyone moves to Croatia completely. Many furnish a holiday home and take only part of their furniture. In that case a part load is often the more economical solution. For a complete household we plan a dedicated transport.
Summer heat
In summer the load space gets very hot. Candles, medication, wine and sensitive electronics should be transported by you or packed particularly well. Our packing service can help with this.
Costs
For Croatia, the price is determined mainly by the distance, tolls along the way, the ferry for island destinations, overnight stays and the return journey. How we calculate in principle is explained under moving company Berlin costs; further destinations abroad can be found at international removals Berlin.
Moving to Croatia: coast, islands and Zagreb
For many Germans, Croatia is a familiar holiday destination. But more and more people are also moving there permanently, whether to Zagreb for a job, to the Dalmatian coast for retirement or back to the family’s home country. Since Croatia joined the euro and the Schengen area in 2023, moving there has become easier. Here we explain what matters.
The route south
From Berlin to Zagreb it is around 1,100 kilometres, to Split or Dubrovnik considerably more. The route runs via the Czech Republic and Austria or via Munich and Salzburg to Slovenia and on to Croatia. Tolls are payable in Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, often distance-based for heavy vehicles. For a lorry this means two to three days. In summer the roads to the coast are very busy, and there are long traffic jams at weekends. We recommend moves to the Adriatic outside the high season.
Islands and ferries
Anyone moving to one of the many Croatian islands needs a ferry connection. Depending on the island, ferries run several times a day, more often in summer and less often in winter. For lorries, the crossing sometimes has to be reserved. On the islands themselves the roads are narrow and winding, and some villages cannot be reached by large vehicles. We plan such moves with smaller vehicles and local partners.
Registering in Croatia
In Berlin you deregister at the Bürgeramt. EU citizens staying in Croatia for longer than three months register their residence with the responsible police station. For many official matters you need a personal identification number, the OIB. Croatian nationals register their new residence with the local police. Find out in advance which documents are required.
Living on the coast
On the Adriatic, many houses stand on slopes, with steep steps and narrow access roads. In the old towns of Split, Zadar or Dubrovnik, the alleys can often only be reached on foot. Furniture is carried there or brought in small vans. In Zagreb, besides period buildings in the centre, there are many apartment blocks with lifts.
Retirement and second home
Many Germans own a holiday flat or a house in Croatia, which they move into completely when they retire. If you only take part of your household goods, a part load is cheaper than a dedicated lorry. Also clarify how health insurance and pension payments are handled abroad.
Costs
The costs depend on distance, destination, ferry connection, volume and additional services. You can find more information on our page international removals Berlin.
Arriving in Croatia
Croatia is a country with long summers, clear water and warm-hearted people. Those who learn a few words of Croatian are quickly welcomed. Coffee culture is strong, and on a café terrace you soon get talking to people.
Customs and pets
As Croatia is part of the EU, there are no customs formalities for household goods. You can take furniture, clothing and personal belongings with you without import duties. For dogs and cats you need the EU pet passport with a valid rabies vaccination and a microchip. For medication you need regularly, it is worth packing a supply for the first few weeks and taking the prescriptions with you. That gives you time to find a doctor locally. Keep your vehicle documents to hand as well, because anyone living permanently in Croatia must register their car there after a certain period.
