Our offer for your part load in Berlin

When is a part load worthwhile?

A part load makes sense if you do not need the entire loading space of a vehicle but value an economical and environmentally conscious solution. Typical shipments are individual pieces of furniture, household appliances, boxes, small transports of trade fair goods or parts of a household in partial moves.

How does a part load work?

We design the process to be transparent and customer-oriented, so you always know what happens next. Before the journey, we determine the volume and dimensions of your items and give recommendations on packing. On this basis, we plan the loading so that the space is used optimally.

  1. Contact us with a description, dimensions and the collection/destination address.
  2. Assessment of the shipment and a specific packing recommendation.
  3. Scheduling of the collection and inclusion in the load planning.
  4. Careful loading, labelling and load securing.
  5. Transport and coordination of delivery at the destination.

Safe transport and handling

Your items are stowed so that they cannot slip and delicate surfaces remain protected. If necessary, we use suitable protective materials and give advice on additional packing. The aim is to minimise the risk of transport damage and offer you a stress-free process.

Delivery options and coordination

Depending on the situation, we coordinate the delivery with you: doorstep delivery, handover to a receiving address or an agreed drop-off are possible. For particularly fragile or bulky items, we plan individual processes so that the handover goes smoothly and is clear for you to follow.

How a part load works

With a part load, your belongings get a place in a lorry that is heading in the desired direction anyway. So you do not pay for the whole vehicle, only for the space and work your load requires. In return, you need to be more flexible with the date: collection and delivery depend on the route planning and take place within an agreed time window.

Who a part load is worthwhile for

  • Students moving to another city with the contents of one room
  • Weekly commuters furnishing a second home
  • Heirs taking over individual pieces of furniture from a Berlin household
  • Buyers of a larger piece of furniture in another city

When dedicated transport makes more sense

If you have to move out on a specific day and want to move in on the same day, a part load is usually not the right choice. For a complete flat with lots of furniture, a dedicated lorry is generally worthwhile too. More on this on the page Long-Distance Move Berlin.

Well packed is half the battle

With a part load, your goods are transported together with other shipments and may be rearranged along the way. So pack boxes sturdily and completely, label them clearly with your name and the destination address and number them. We pad the furniture. A list of all items helps with checking on delivery.

Part load abroad

Especially on long routes, for example to Spain, Portugal or Scandinavia, a part load makes a big difference in price. Information on international moves can be found under International Moves Berlin.

Costs

The price depends on volume, weight, distance and the effort involved in loading and unloading. We explain general cost factors under Moving Company Berlin Costs.

Part load step by step

  1. You give us the collection and destination address, the volume and your preferred time frame.
  2. We check whether a suitable route is planned and give you a price.
  3. You pack boxes and prepare furniture; we pad everything on collection.
  4. We collect your belongings within the agreed time window.
  5. Delivery takes place on the route; we announce it in good time.

Time window instead of a fixed time

Because a part load travels on a route with several stops, we usually give a time window rather than a fixed time. The more flexible you are, the cheaper it gets. If you need delivery on a particular day, let us know – sometimes this can be arranged.

Interim storage as a buffer

If collection and delivery do not match in terms of timing, your belongings can be temporarily stored with us. This way you do not have to wait for the next suitable route to move out of your old flat.

What does not belong in a part load

You should transport valuables, important documents, medication and anything you urgently need in the next few days yourself. Food and plants are also poorly suited to a part load, because the journey can take longer than with direct transport.

Part load explained in more detail

With a part load, you share the loading space of a vehicle with other customers. This saves costs but requires a few things that do not matter with dedicated transport. Here we answer the questions we are asked most often.

How is the volume estimated?

For a part load, what counts most is how much space your belongings need in the vehicle. This is measured in cubic metres. An ordinary moving box takes up about a tenth of a cubic metre. A sofa, a wardrobe or a washing machine need considerably more. The easiest way is a list of all items with approximate dimensions. From this, we calculate the volume and tell you whether a part load makes sense.

Pack so it can be stacked

In the vehicle, shipments from different customers are placed next to and on top of each other. That is why boxes should be sturdy, of the same size and well sealed. Sacks, bags and open crates are difficult to stack and are easily damaged. If possible, furniture should be dismantled so that it takes up little space.

Every item labelled

To make sure nothing gets mixed up, we mark every item of a part load with your name or a number. In addition, there is a list of all items. Everything is counted on collection and on delivery. Please also label your boxes yourself with your name and the destination address.

Collection and delivery

Because several customers are served on one route, we usually give a time window rather than a fixed time for collection and delivery. We get in touch before the vehicle arrives. If you cannot be on site at the agreed time, a person you trust can hand over or receive the items.

When a suitable trip is scheduled

Whether and when a part load is possible depends on our jobs heading towards your destination. On frequently travelled routes within Germany, this often works within a few weeks. For rare destinations it can take longer. If you need a fixed date, your own small transport or a regular long-distance move is the safer choice.

Typical part loads

Often they are students moving to another city with a few pieces of furniture, couples dissolving a second household or families collecting heirlooms from their parents’ home. Companies also sometimes send individual pieces of furniture or equipment to a branch. What they all have in common is that the volume is too small for a dedicated lorry and the date has some flexibility.

Part load and insurance

Even with a part load, your belongings are covered during transport in accordance with the statutory rules for removals. If you are sending particularly valuable items, please talk to us beforehand. We will then clarify whether additional cover makes sense. Note the condition of fragile furniture before collection, ideally with photos. On delivery, check your belongings and note any irregularities immediately.

Who receives the items at the destination?

With a part load, the exact delivery window is often only fixed shortly beforehand. If you are not yet at the destination at that time, arrange in advance who will receive the items. This can be a neighbour, a friend or the landlord. Give us their name and telephone number and, if necessary, provide a short written authorisation. We get in touch as soon as the van is on its way and place the items in the room you have specified.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I determine whether my shipment is suitable for a part load?

Dimensions, weight and the fragility of the goods are decisive. Give us this information when you enquire; we check suitability and propose the right loading and protection solution.

How will I be informed about collection and delivery?

You receive all relevant information in advance, including the collection period and coordination of the delivery. On request, we clarify the exact arrival time by phone or message.

How much does a part load from Berlin cost?

With a part load, you only pay for the space your furniture and boxes take up in the lorry and for carrying and floors at both addresses. Because several customers share the journey, this is usually considerably cheaper for small volumes on long routes. General information on costs can be found under Moving Company Berlin Costs.

What is included in a part load with Lion Umzüge?

Collection in Berlin, protection with blankets and film, transport on a planned route together with other shipments and delivery right into the flat at the destination. You can book dismantling and reassembly of furniture as an extra.

How soon can I get an appointment for a part load?

With a part load, the date depends on our route planning. The more flexible you are about the collection and delivery day, the sooner we can find a suitable trip – sometimes within a week.

Can I combine several services with a part load?

Yes. We pack your belongings ready for transport with our packing service, dismantle furniture with our assembly service and put items into storage until the next route starts. Anything that is not coming along can be disposed of as part of a house clearance.

How are my belongings insured with a part load?

Your part load is covered under the German Commercial Code (HGB), usually at 620 euros per cubic metre of loading space. We mark every item with your name so that it is not mixed up with other shipments. For valuable individual items, we recommend additional insurance.
