A long-distance move from or to Hanover requires precise organisation, clear communication and experience with long distances. Lion Umzüge is based in Berlin and handles your move as a Berlin removals company, professionally coordinating and carrying out the entire transport and all services from Berlin. This way you keep one reliable contact person throughout the entire planning and execution.

Your move between Berlin and Hanover: structured and personal
Personal advice and individual planning
The first step is a detailed conversation: we record your needs, special items, access situations and time preferences. On this basis we draw up a transparent plan, which we adjust together. You receive clear advice on what should be prepared and which additional services make sense.
Services that make your move easier
Our services are based on the individual requirements of your long-distance move. They include careful packing, professional dismantling and reassembly of furniture, and secure fastening in the vehicle. For special pieces of furniture or valuable contents, we discuss the right handling and suitable materials.
How your move works
A clear process gives you security and control over the planning. After the preliminary talk we ensure structured preparation and orderly execution. The following process gives you a concrete overview of the most important steps:
- Preliminary talk: inventory on site or by video, clarification of parking and access conditions.
- Preparation: delivery of materials, packing, labelling and confirmation of the date.
- Execution: dismantling, loading, safe transport with documented load securing.
- Unloading: careful delivery, setting up the furniture as you wish and a brief functional check.
- Completion: joint inspection on site and clarification of any open points.

Tips for relaxed preparation
With a few simple preparations, moving day can be made much less stressful. Label boxes by room and with notes on the contents, prepare an emergency box with documents and important items, and clearly mark delicate items. If you like, we can advise you on the best packing for special furniture or works of art.
Moving Berlin–Hanover: done quickly, well prepared
Hanover can be reached from Berlin in around 285 kilometres via the A2. For a removal lorry that means about three and a half to four hours in normal traffic. This makes a move to Hanover possible in one day in many cases. That is precisely why good preparation pays off: if everything is ready in Berlin in the morning, there is enough time for assembly in Hanover in the afternoon.
What “well prepared” means in practice
- All boxes are packed, sealed and labelled
- Wardrobes are empty, drawers cleared out
- The washing machine is disconnected and secured
- The parking ban zone is in place in front of both buildings
- Someone with a key is waiting for the team in Hanover
The more of this is done, the faster we are finished. If you need help with packing, our packing service can take care of individual rooms.
Commute or move completely?
Some customers initially commute between Berlin and Hanover, because the journey is easy by ICE train. If you first move into a small flat with just a few pieces of furniture, a mini move is often enough. The rest follows later when the family joins you. We are happy to plan both moves with you.
Residential areas in Hanover
Popular areas are the List, Linden, the Südstadt and the Oststadt, with many period buildings. In the Calenberger Neustadt and on the outskirts there are newer buildings, often with a lift. You apply for parking ban zones from the City of Hanover; on the Berlin side we take care of this on request – see parking ban zone Berlin.
Costs
With a one-day move there are no overnight costs, which noticeably reduces the price compared with more distant destinations. Volume, floors and additional services remain decisive. More on this under moving company Berlin costs. When one or two days make sense is shown in the table on our page on the long-distance move Berlin–Hanover.
After the move
Within two weeks you register at the Bürgeramt (citizens’ office). Also remember the mail forwarding order, re-registering your car and your electricity and internet contracts.
Finding a flat in Hanover
Hanover has a somewhat more relaxed housing market than Berlin, but popular districts such as the List or Linden are in demand here too. If you are still looking, you can still have the survey carried out in Berlin. We fix the date as soon as the tenancy agreement is signed.
Updating your address after the move
In addition to registering at the Bürgeramt, you should re-register your car if you are keeping it, and change your address with your bank, insurance companies, employer and the broadcasting licence service (Beitragsservice). A mail forwarding order ensures that post sent to your old address still reaches you.
Back to Berlin too
Of course we also drive the route in the other direction. If you are moving from Hanover to Berlin, we carry out the survey in advance by video or using photos and plan the move just as carefully.
Arriving in Hanover: districts, everyday life and authorities
Hanover is often underestimated. Anyone moving here will find a green city with the Eilenriede forest, Lake Maschsee and the Herrenhausen Gardens, good connections and a more relaxed housing market than in many other big cities. This section is about settling in. We explain the transport via the A2 on the page long-distance move Berlin Hanover.
Registering at the citizens’ office
In Hanover you register at one of the city’s citizens’ offices (Bürgerämter) or, if you are moving to a surrounding municipality, at the registration office there. Besides the city itself, the Hanover Region includes numerous municipalities such as Langenhagen, Laatzen or Garbsen. The two-week deadline applies everywhere. Do not forget your ID and the landlord’s confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).
From the List to Linden
The List and Oststadt are popular residential areas with period buildings, cafés and short walks to the Eilenriede. Linden is considered alternative and lively, with many young people and small shops. The Südstadt is close to the Maschsee, while Kleefeld and Kirchrode are quieter and popular with families. For a move, the densely built-up districts with narrow streets are more demanding than the loosely built-up districts on the outskirts.
Living in period buildings and new builds
In the List and Linden there are many period buildings without a lift. On the Kronsberg and in other new development areas, by contrast, there are modern buildings with lifts and underground car parks. When planning, we ask about the floor, lift and access so that we plan the right number of helpers. For new builds we clarify in advance whether the lift needs to be protected.
Trade fairs and traffic
During major trade fairs Hanover is very busy. Hotels are fully booked, and there are traffic jams around the exhibition grounds in the south of the city. If your move falls in a trade fair week, we allow more time for the journey or suggest a different date.
Costs and planning
A move to Hanover can often be done in one day, and in two days for larger households. The costs depend on volume, floors, carrying distances and additional services. If you can choose your date flexibly, you save money. More on this on our page moving company Berlin costs.
Commuting to Berlin
By ICE, Berlin can be reached quickly from Hanover. Some customers move to Hanover and keep their job in Berlin, or vice versa. If you want to set up a small second home in the other city, we are happy to combine this with the main move or organise a part load.
Arriving in the state capital
Hanover has a well-developed light rail network and many cycle paths. The Eilenriede, one of the largest urban forests in Europe, can be reached on foot from many residential areas. After the move, a walk there or a lap around the Maschsee is well worthwhile.
One last tip: many period buildings in Hanover have back courtyards with bicycle cellars and bin areas. If the way to the flat leads through the courtyard, we speak to the property management beforehand so that gates are open and no bins are in the way.
