Hohenschönhausen in the district of Lichtenberg has two faces. Neu-Hohenschönhausen is one of Berlin’s large prefab housing estates, built in the 1980s, with eleven-storey and five-storey blocks and plenty of greenery in between. Alt-Hohenschönhausen around the Obersee and Orankesee lakes, on the other hand, is characterised by period buildings, villas and detached houses. As a moving company in Berlin Hohenschönhausen, we know both sides and plan your move to suit the address.

Moving company Berlin Hohenschönhausen: prefab blocks, period buildings and family homes
Hardly any neighbourhood shows as clearly how different moves in Berlin can be. In prefab blocks, it is often about lifts, long corridors and parking spaces that do exist but are far away. In the period buildings by the lake, it is about stairs. In the detached houses in Malchow, Wartenberg or Falkenberg, it is about cellars, garages and long distances across the property.
Moving in an eleven-storey block
The tower blocks in Neu-Hohenschönhausen have lifts, but the cars are small. A wardrobe rarely fits in in one piece, and a sofa only on its end, if at all. That is why we dismantle large furniture in the flat. It is also important that the lift is not blocked for long periods during the move, as the neighbours need it too. For larger moves, we coordinate with the property management and work quickly in fixed rounds.
Moving in a five-storey block without a lift
Many five-storey prefab blocks have no lift. A move from the fifth floor is physically demanding and takes longer. In such cases, we plan in more carriers so that the work is evenly distributed and the move is still completed in one day.
Period buildings and villas by the Obersee
Around the Obersee and Orankesee there are older houses with spacious flats, some with valuable wooden floors and stairwells that need to be treated with care. We lay down protective material, pad furniture carefully and plan in enough time. If you own heavy individual pieces such as a piano here, you will find information under piano transport Berlin.
Parking and no-parking zones
In Neu-Hohenschönhausen there are often large car parks in front of the buildings, but they are densely occupied by residents. Trams and buses run along main roads such as Falkenberger Chaussee or Konrad-Wolf-Straße. A no-parking zone ensures that the lorry can stand close to the entrance. We apply for it on request – details under no-parking zone Berlin.

What a move in Hohenschönhausen costs
The price depends on the volume of goods, the floors, the lift, the carrying distances and any additional services. A move within Hohenschönhausen or to the neighbouring area is mainly calculated on the basis of staff, vehicle and working time. A fifth floor without a lift takes more time than the journey itself.
| Situation | What it means for the effort |
|---|---|
| Eleven-storey block with lift | Dismantle furniture, use the lift in rounds |
| Five-storey block without lift | more carriers, more time |
| Period building by the lake | Protection of floors and stairwell, careful padding |
| Detached house | Allow extra for cellar, garage and garden |

Moving in later life: step-free living in Hohenschönhausen
Many people have lived in Neu-Hohenschönhausen since the estate was built and have known their neighbourhood for decades. When the stairs in the five-storey block become difficult, moving to a flat with a lift is often the obvious step – frequently even in the same area. We support such moves calmly and patiently, pack on request, set everything up again in the new flat and clear the old one. More on the page senior moves Berlin.
When a household is dissolved
Not everything always moves with you. After a death or when moving into a care home, a flat sometimes has to be cleared completely. We sort out with you what should be kept and take care of the rest. Information can be found under house clearance Berlin.
Tips for your move in a prefab block
- Note down the dimensions of the lift car and let us know
- Inform neighbours and the property management about the moving date
- Clear your cellar compartment early, as the corridors are often narrow
- Do not use the bin rooms to store bulky waste – we dispose of old furniture on request
- Limit boxes to a size that fits easily into the lift
The best time of day
In large residential buildings, the lift is busy in the morning and early evening. We therefore like to start early and use the quieter hours in the late morning for the large furniture. This way, the move and the neighbours get in each other’s way as little as possible.
Packing and assembly
If you lack the time or strength to pack, our team takes care of the packing. We dismantle wardrobes, beds and kitchens and reassemble them at the new location. More under packing service Berlin and assembly service Berlin.
Hohenschönhausen at a glance: residential areas and routes
In addition to Alt- and Neu-Hohenschönhausen, Hohenschönhausen also includes the village-like localities of Malchow, Wartenberg and Falkenberg in the north. There you will find old village centres, estate houses and new areas of detached houses bordering Brandenburg. The distances are longer than in the city centre, and some streets are narrow or one-way only. We therefore plan the size of the vehicle according to the specific address and not according to a fixed scheme.
When the move stays within the estate
Many of our jobs in Neu-Hohenschönhausen are moves over just a few hundred metres: from one block to the next, from the third floor without a lift to a flat with a lift, or from a two-room to a three-room flat. Such moves are quick to drive but not necessarily quick to complete, as the effort lies almost entirely in the carrying. Good preparation pays off twice here: when all the boxes are packed and the furniture emptied, we are often finished by early afternoon.
Moving to a larger flat with children
Families who need more space often find larger flats in Hohenschönhausen than in the city centre. To make the first evening in the new flat relaxed, we set up children’s beds and children’s rooms first. Toys, cuddly toys and sleeping things belong in a separate box that you take with you yourself.
After the move
Within two weeks of moving in, you must register at the citizens’ office (Bürgeramt) – you can do this at any Berlin citizens’ office, not just in Lichtenberg. Also give your new address to your landlord, bank, health insurance fund and employer, and set up a mail forwarding order with Deutsche Post. On request, we take empty boxes away again so that your hallway is quickly clear.
Common mistakes when moving in a tower block
- Packing boxes too large and too heavy so that they are hard to handle in the lift
- Not reserving the lift in advance or not informing the property management
- Underestimating the distance from the entrance to the car park
- Putting mirrors and glass panels into the lift unprotected

Moving at the end of the month
In large housing estates, several households often move at the same time at the end of the month. The lift is then constantly in use, and it gets crowded in front of the building. Enquire early and talk to the property management so that the moves do not get in each other’s way.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a move in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen cost?
In Neu-Hohenschönhausen, it is mostly flats in tower blocks with lifts; in Alt-Hohenschönhausen there are also houses with gardens. Costs arise from volume, floor and additional services. An overview is provided by moving company Berlin costs.
Will my furniture fit into the lift in the tower block?
Large wardrobes and sofas often do not fit into the lift cars in one piece. We dismantle them in the flat and reassemble them at the destination.
Do I need a no-parking zone in Hohenschönhausen?
The parking spaces in front of many buildings are densely occupied. A no-parking zone shortens the carrying distances considerably. We apply for it for you on request.
How early should I book my move in Hohenschönhausen?
Four to eight weeks is ideal so that we can agree the use of the lift with the housing company. At short notice, it often works out during the week.
Do you also help older people with their move?
Yes. With a senior move, we pack, set up and, on request, clear the old flat.
How are my belongings insured when moving in Hohenschönhausen?
Statutory liability under the German Commercial Code (HGB) is usually 620 euros per cubic metre of loading space. For valuables, additional insurance can make sense.
Do you also dispose of old furniture?
Yes. On request, we take away whatever is not coming with you and dispose of it properly. More under clearance Berlin.
