Our process – how we work
To make sure everything runs smoothly, we follow a clear process that protects your furniture and belongings and gets them efficiently from A to B.
- On-site or digital survey appointment in Berlin to take stock
- Individual packing and protection concept for furniture, art and electronics
- Coordination of transport with suitable vehicles for the long haul
- Careful loading, securing and transport to Frankfurt am Main
- Unloading and support with the handover at the destination
Packing, protection and handling
We use proven packing solutions and tried-and-tested techniques to reliably protect delicate items. On request, we dismantle and reassemble larger furniture and secure everything properly in the vehicle.

Moving day, arrival and follow-up
On moving day, we coordinate delivery, parking options and the order of unloading so that the day runs in a structured way. After arriving in Frankfurt am Main, we help you with placing items, take note of minor follow-up work and clarify any open questions about the handover.
Berlin–Frankfurt: moving to the metropolis on the Main
It is about 550 kilometres from Berlin to Frankfurt am Main, depending on traffic via the A9 and A4 or via the A2 and A7. Both routes carry heavy lorry traffic, and the Frankfurter Kreuz interchange is one of the busiest junctions in the country. We therefore plan two days: loading in Berlin, the team staying overnight on the way and unloading on the morning of the second day before city traffic in Frankfurt really picks up.
Frankfurt’s residential districts and their particular features
In Nordend, Bornheim and Sachsenhausen there are many period buildings with four or five storeys, often without a lift. The streets are narrow and densely parked, so a parking suspension zone in front of the building is almost always necessary there. Newer residential complexes, for example in the Europaviertel or on the Riedberg, have lifts and underground car parks, for which we should agree times with the property management in advance. The sooner we know these details, the more accurate the quote will be.
The questions we ask during the survey
- Roughly how many rooms and how many boxes will there be?
- Which furniture should be dismantled and reassembled in Frankfurt?
- Are there items of particular value, such as art or antiques?
- Are moving out and moving in on the same date, or is an interim solution needed?
- Would you like to pack yourself, or should we take care of it?
Interim storage for gaps between dates
Especially with job-related moves to Frankfurt, the notice period in Berlin and the start of the tenancy on the Main do not always match. In this case, we store your furniture and deliver it on the agreed date. Read more under storage Berlin.
Tax and costs
A job-related move can usually be claimed for tax purposes. Keep the invoice and clarify the details with your tax adviser. Roughly what the move costs depends mainly on the volume, the floors and the additional services booked; you can find an overview under moving company Berlin costs. We have gathered other routes and planning tips on the page long-distance moves Berlin.
Arriving in Frankfurt
Within two weeks of moving in, you register at the Bürgeramt (citizens’ office). It is best to book an appointment early, as waiting times in large cities are often long. By then your boxes will already be in the right rooms and the furniture will be assembled.
What you should take care of in the last week
- Note down the meter readings in Berlin and take photos
- Schedule the flat handover with your landlord
- Defrost the fridge and secure the washing machine
- Pack a box with everything for the first night: bedding, towel, chargers, tools
- Let your neighbours in Frankfurt know that the stairwell will be in use on moving day
This way you avoid little things being forgotten on moving day. You will also find many of these points in our detailed moving checklist.
Berlin–Frankfurt: how the long haul is planned
This page explains the logistical side of your long-distance move to Frankfurt am Main: route, journey time, vehicle, part load and interim storage. If you would like to know more about arriving in Frankfurt, which official procedures are due and how the costs are made up, you will find this on the page moving Berlin Frankfurt.
Two possible routes
There are essentially two ways to Frankfurt. One leads south on the A9 and then via the A4, the A7 and the A5 to Hesse. The other leads west on the A2 and then south via the A7 and the A5. Both routes are similar in length, around 550 kilometres. We decide which one to take on moving day based on the traffic situation. Roadworks on the A4 in Thuringia or on the A7 near Kassel can tip the balance.
Two days with a clear split
The pure driving time is six to seven hours, plus breaks. We therefore usually plan the move over two days: day one for packing and loading in Berlin, day two for the journey and unloading in Frankfurt. If you want the furniture to be assembled by the evening of the second day, you should allow enough time for assembly. For large flats, a third day for assembly can make sense.
Frankfurt Rhine-Main traffic
The region around Frankfurt is one of the busiest in Germany. The Frankfurter Kreuz, the Bad Homburger Kreuz and the approaches to the city are heavily congested at peak times. We try to reach Frankfurt in the late morning, when rush-hour traffic has eased. If your destination is in a suburb such as Offenbach, Bad Vilbel or Eschborn, we adjust the planning accordingly.
Part load for smaller moves
If you are only moving one room, a few pieces of furniture or a commuter flat, you can save costs with a part load. Your belongings are transported to Frankfurt together with other consignments. We give you a time window for collection and delivery in advance. For commuters moving into a second home in Frankfurt, this is a popular solution.
Interim storage in Berlin
The Frankfurt housing market is tight, and the start of the tenancy and the move-out date do not always match. If the new flat is not yet available, we store your belongings in Berlin. As soon as the move-in date is fixed, we take them to Frankfurt. This saves you an expensive overlap of two rents or a hotel with furniture in the basement.
Protection for electronics and office equipment
Many people who move to Frankfurt work in banking, consulting or administration. The move often includes a home office with monitors, a printer and files. We pack electronics with padding and position them in the van so that they cannot slip. Files go into sturdy boxes with lids, sealed on request.
By the way: lorries over 7.5 tonnes are generally not allowed to drive on Sundays and public holidays in Germany. If you are planning a large move to Frankfurt, you should therefore schedule the transport day on a weekday.
