Why Lion Umzüge for your long-distance move?

You have one central contact person in Berlin who accompanies the entire process. We focus on clear communication, reliable planning and gentle handling of your household goods. On long-distance moves in particular, structured processes and realistic scheduling are crucial — and that is what we value.

Our services for the move Berlin–Mannheim

How your move works

The process is clearly structured so that you always know what happens next. The typical steps at a glance:

  1. Initial consultation to clarify the scope of your move and any special requirements.
  2. On-site inspection or virtual survey for a precise assessment of packing requirements.
  3. Planning of the materials needed and scheduling of packing and collection.
  4. Proper packing and securing of your household goods by trained staff.
  5. Transport to Mannheim with coordinated loading and unloading.
  6. Joint handover at the destination and a debrief on any open points.

Practical tips for your preparation

Start sorting early: label boxes by room and contents, keep valuables separate and draw up an inventory list. Measure large pieces of furniture and check entrance and doorway widths. Clarify parking options and any access restrictions at your destination in Mannheim so that loading and unloading run smoothly.

Communication and appointments

Reliable scheduling is particularly important for long-distance moves. We record agreements in writing and give you loading windows as well as expected time windows for the handover. This lets you plan arrangements at your destination, and we make sure that everything is coordinated.

Berlin–Mannheim: moving to the city of squares

At around 620 kilometres, Mannheim is one of the more distant destinations of our long-distance moves. The route usually runs via the A9 and A4 or via Kassel and Frankfurt. For a removal lorry, that means many hours of driving including breaks, so we always plan two days. The team stays overnight on the way, and you can plan your own journey independently.

The squares and other districts

Mannheim’s city centre is divided into squares (Quadrate) which bear letters and numbers instead of street names, such as C 4 or Q 7. The buildings are dense, many houses have four or more floors, and space to stop in front of the door is scarce. In Neckarstadt and Jungbusch there are many period buildings, in Lindenhof and Neuostheim more spacious residential houses, and new-build areas on the outskirts. Tell us exactly where your new flat is, and we will plan the vehicle and no-parking zone accordingly.

Timeline for the move to Mannheim

When What

4 weeks before Apply for no-parking zones at both addresses
2 weeks before Pack boxes, sort out what you do not need
Day 1 Dismantling and loading in Berlin
Day 2 Unloading and assembly in Mannheim

Heavy and fragile items

On long routes, we secure every piece of furniture individually. We transport glass, mirrors and pictures upright, and electrical appliances in their original boxes or well padded. For pianos, safes or very heavy wardrobes, we agree in advance how many carriers are needed. For instruments, we offer our own piano transport.

Costs at a glance

On routes over 600 kilometres, tolls, fuel and the team’s overnight stay are added to staff and working time. All items are listed separately in our quote. General guide prices can be found under Moving Company Berlin Costs, further destinations under Long-Distance Move Berlin. For small quantities, a part load is often cheaper.

Arriving in Mannheim

Within two weeks, you register at one of the city’s Bürgerservice (citizens’ service) offices. If you have labelled the boxes, they will already be in the right room by then.

Over 600 kilometres to the Rhine and Neckar: how the transport works

Mannheim lies in the south-west of Germany, where the Rhine and Neckar meet. Around 620 kilometres separate the city from Berlin. On this page we describe how we organise a long-distance move over this distance. You can also find general advice on planning long-distance moves on our page Planning a long-distance move.

Possible routes

Several routes lead to Mannheim. One option is the A9 to the Hermsdorf interchange, then the A4 westwards and the A7 and A5 southwards, before entering the city via the A6 or A67. Another route runs south via the A2 and the A7. Which route is faster depends on roadworks and traffic. We check the situation before setting off and choose the better option.

Two days or a night drive

For over 600 kilometres, a lorry needs seven to nine hours including breaks. A move in one day is therefore not realistic. We either plan two days, loading on the first and driving and unloading on the second, or use two drivers who drive overnight. The night drive has the advantage that the roads are emptier and the vehicle is at the destination in the morning.

Mannheim’s squares

Mannheim’s city centre is divided into squares, and the addresses consist of letters and numbers, such as Q5 or M2. For people unfamiliar with the city, this takes some getting used to. We plan the approach based on the exact address and clarify whether delivery zones or one-way streets need to be taken into account. It is cramped in the squares and parking is scarce. A no-parking zone is almost always necessary there.

Rhine-Neckar region

Many moves do not go directly to Mannheim but to Heidelberg, Ludwigshafen, Weinheim or Schwetzingen. Ludwigshafen lies on the other side of the Rhine and belongs to Rhineland-Palatinate. A different authority is then responsible for the no-parking zone. We take care of this regardless of which federal state your destination is in.

Part load for small quantities

On the long route to Mannheim, a part load is particularly worthwhile for small households. Your belongings are transported together with other consignments, and you only pay a proportionate price. Students at the University of Mannheim or young professionals often use this option.

Securing the load on a long route

The longer the journey, the more important load securing becomes. We use tension straps, anti-slip mats and blankets. Fragile furniture is additionally padded. We load in such a way that heavy items are at the bottom and front and nothing can shift. We transport electrical appliances upright.

Arrival and keys

We agree an arrival time with you and get in touch as soon as we are on our way. Please make sure that someone with a key is on site and that the no-parking zone is set up in front of the building. Then unloading can begin immediately, and your new home will be set up quickly.

If the flat is in the squares

In the squares there are many post-war buildings with shops on the ground floor and flats above. The stairwells are often narrow, and there are not lifts everywhere. When planning, we therefore ask about the floor, lift and width of the stairwell. That way we send enough helpers and avoid a sofa getting stuck at the last turn of the stairs. For students moving into just one room, a small team is often enough.
