Small moves — personal and tailor-made
What is a mini move?
A mini move involves manageable households or partial moves in which only a limited number of boxes and pieces of furniture are moved. It is suitable for students, singles, couples or as an addition to a larger move. The aim is to minimise the effort while working carefully and reliably.
Our services
We advise you on choosing the right vehicle and give practical tips on packing. On request, we professionally pack fragile items and transport your furniture with care. On site, we take care of safe loading and unloading as well as the experienced placement of the furniture at the new location. Communication is direct and transparent, so you always know how the process is planned.

How your mini move works
To ensure your move runs smoothly, we work according to a clear, transparent scheme. The most important steps at a glance:
- Assessment of requirements: we clarify the scope, accessibility and any special requirements.
- Planning: we agree on a suitable time slot and prepare the team.
- Packing: on request, we take care of packing and protect fragile items.
- Transport: safe loading and unloading as well as proper securing in the vehicle.
- Completion: joint inspection on site and clarification of final details.
Tips for preparation
A few simple steps shorten the time on site: label boxes clearly, keep valuables separate and clear wide access routes for larger items. Small aids such as moving blankets, ratchet straps and a set of screwdrivers make assembly work easier. Also mark particularly fragile items so that we can give them extra protection.
Who a mini move is right for
A mini move is intended for anyone who has too much for their own car boot but too little for a large removal lorry. Typical examples are a room in a shared flat, a furnished apartment, a small studio flat or moving out of the parental home. Anyone who only takes part of the shared household with them after a separation is also often well advised to opt for a mini move.
What fits into a mini move
- Bed with mattress, desk, chair and a shelf
- A small wardrobe or a chest of drawers
- 15 to 25 boxes
- Bicycle, lamp, plants and odds and ends
If it turns out to be considerably more, we will tell you honestly and suggest a regular private move.
Done quickly – even at short notice
Because a mini move does not take much time, we can often schedule it between larger jobs. This also makes short-notice appointments possible. A two-person team with a smaller vehicle is usually finished within a few hours on short routes within Berlin, even if it goes up to the fourth floor.
Preparation that lowers the price
Pack everything into boxes before we arrive, dismantle simple furniture yourself and find out where the vehicle can stop. The less time we need on site, the cheaper it gets. In streets with little parking space, for example in Friedrichshain or Prenzlauer Berg, a no-parking zone is worthwhile even for a small move.
Mini move for students
Many mini moves are student moves – from the hall of residence to a shared flat or from a shared flat to the first flat of your own. More on this on the page Student Move Berlin.
Costs
We charge for a mini move based on the vehicle, movers and time. Further information can be found under Moving Company Berlin Costs.
Mini move: how to plan it properly
Even a small move needs a little planning. First, think about what is really coming with you. In many shared-flat rooms there is furniture provided by the landlord or the flatmates – this naturally stays behind. Then roughly count the boxes and the larger items. With this list and a few photos, we can usually give you a fixed price even without a survey.
Moving day
On moving day, a team of two people arrives with a suitable vehicle. We carry the boxes and furniture downstairs, load them, drive to the new address and carry everything in. On request, we dismantle and reassemble simple furniture such as a bed or a shelf. On short routes within Berlin, a mini move is often done in two to four hours.
If it turns out to be more
Sometimes it becomes clear while packing that there is more than expected. Let us know in good time and we will plan a larger vehicle or a second trip. On moving day itself this is more difficult, because the vehicle may already be full by then.
Mini move and storage
If you are going abroad for a few months or have a transition period between two flats, you can store your belongings with us. A small storage space is usually enough for the contents of one room.
Typical mini moves we see in Berlin
A mini move is not a slimmed-down move, but a type of job in its own right. It is short, but it has its own peculiarities. A few situations come up again and again.
Moving within the same building
Some people only move a few floors up or to the flat opposite, for example because a larger or smaller flat in the building has become available. Often no vehicle is needed at all, or only for temporary storage. It is important that both flats are accessible at the same time. Then we carry directly from door to door. This is quick, but the work in the stairwell remains the same as with any move. Protect floors and door frames in both flats and inform the neighbours so that the lift stays free for a few hours.
Moving in together
When couples move in together, often only one household moves, and only partially. The question then is: which furniture comes along, and what will be duplicated? Two sofas, two beds and two washing machines rarely fit into one flat. Clarify together beforehand what stays, what will be sold and what should be put into storage. Then we only transport what really has a place in the new flat.
Moving out of a shared flat
A room in a shared flat often fits into a small van. You should divide shared items such as kitchen appliances or furniture in the hallway with your flatmates beforehand. Otherwise, on moving day we are left with the question of who owns the toaster. Mark your belongings if they are in communal areas.
The first furnished apartment
Anyone moving into a furnished apartment usually only takes boxes, clothes, a few favourite pieces of furniture and perhaps a bicycle. Check in advance what is already available in the new flat. There is often already a bed, a wardrobe and kitchen equipment. Then the move is reduced to a few cubic metres, and a small vehicle is enough.
Packing list for a small move
A short list helps even with a small move. Count the boxes and note down the larger pieces of furniture. Have tools ready for dismantling and collect screws in labelled bags. Keep your ID, keys and charger in a separate bag. And remember to photograph the meter readings in the old flat. That takes care of the most important points.
Parking in narrow streets
Smaller vehicles find a space more easily, but in many Berlin neighbourhoods even that is difficult. If the van has to double-park, it quickly becomes expensive and dangerous. For streets with little parking space, we recommend a no-parking zone even for a small move. It ensures that the van is parked right outside the door and the distances stay short.
If you are unsure whether your plans still count as a mini move, simply send us a list or a few photos. We will then tell you which vehicle is suitable.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have just individual pieces of furniture transported with a mini move?
Yes. We also carry out part deliveries and the transport of individual pieces of furniture. Let us know the dimensions so that we can plan the right vehicle and the necessary load securing.
Do I have to be present during the move?
It helps if you are on site at the beginning and at the end to discuss details and accept the handover. If you are unable to attend, we are happy to coordinate the process with a key handover agreed in advance or with an authorised person.
How much does a mini move in Berlin cost?
A mini move is usually done within a few hours, so the main factors are the number of helpers, the size of the vehicle and the floors. For a room in a shared flat or a few pieces of furniture, a van with two helpers is often enough. You receive a fixed price in advance. Guide prices can be found on the page Moving Company Berlin Costs.
What is included in a mini move with Lion Umzüge?
A small team with a suitable van, carrying, transport and setting up in the new flat. On request, we dismantle and reassemble a bed or wardrobe. Ideal for rooms in shared flats, studio flats or individual large pieces of furniture.
How soon can I get an appointment for a mini move?
Mini moves often fit into gaps between larger jobs, so we can frequently find a date within just a few days. Things get tighter towards the end of the month – then it is worth enquiring one to two weeks in advance.
Can I combine several services with a mini move?
Yes. Even with a small move, you can add a packing service or furniture assembly service. If old furniture needs to go, we take care of the house clearance, and anything that does not have a place yet can go into storage.
How are my belongings insured during a mini move?
Liability under Section 451e of the German Commercial Code (HGB) also applies to a mini move, i.e. 620 euros per cubic metre of required loading space. With small volumes this limit is reached quickly – if an expensive television or a designer piece is included, ask us about additional insurance.
