Your long-distance move between Berlin and Hanover — clearly organised
Personal consultation before the move
To begin with, we discuss your requirements: which furniture is to come along, what is fragile and which access conditions have to be considered at the origin and destination. This allows us to draw up a realistic quote and prepare the transport in a targeted way.
Safe transport of your furniture and belongings
We plan the load securing as well as suitable packing materials for delicate and bulky goods. Your household goods are loaded so that they survive the journey between Berlin and Hanover well protected.
Packing, dismantling and assembly
On request, we take care of professional packing, dismantling large pieces of furniture and reassembling them at your new home. This reduces effort and risk for you, and you can concentrate on what really matters.

Berlin–Hanover: a long-distance move that often succeeds in one day
At around 285 kilometres via the A2 motorway, Hanover is one of the closer destinations among our long-distance moves. For a two- to three-room flat with good preparation, we can often manage loading, driving and unloading in a single day. The prerequisites are an early start in Berlin, free stopping spaces at both addresses and a realistic view of the volume of goods. For large households or a house with a cellar and attic, we prefer to plan two days so that nobody has to assemble furniture under time pressure at the end.
One-day or two-day move?
| Situation | Our recommendation |
|---|---|
| 1–3 rooms, lift or low floor | Usually feasible in one day |
| 3–4 rooms in a period building without a lift | Depending on the volume, one long day or two days |
| House with cellar, garage, attic | Two days with an overnight stay for the team |
| Kitchen dismantling and assembly requested | Allow additional time |
Arriving in Hanover
In popular residential areas such as List, Linden or Südstadt, parking spaces in front of the door are scarce, and many buildings date from the Gründerzeit era with high ceilings and steep stairs. A no-parking zone in front of the new building saves a lot of time and effort during unloading, because the distances between the lorry and the front door stay short. It is applied for from the City of Hanover; for the Berlin side, you can leave it to us, as described on the page No-parking zone Berlin.
Preparation that really helps
- Do not pack boxes heavier than about 20 kilograms; put books in small boxes
- Empty wardrobes and drawers beforehand
- Fit the washing machine with a transport lock
- Keep drinks, tools and keys to hand for moving day
What a move of this size can cost is shown under Moving company Berlin costs. Further routes and general tips can be found on the page Long-distance move Berlin, and if you only have a few pieces of furniture, ask about a shared load.
Moving day at a glance
We start early in Berlin, dismantle the furniture and load the heavy and bulky items first. After about three to four hours of driving, depending on traffic on the A2, we reach Hanover. There we carry everything into the new flat, place the boxes in the labelled rooms and reassemble beds, wardrobes and shelves. If the day gets too tight, we do not simply postpone the assembly of individual pieces to some point in the future, but agree with you beforehand what needs to be in place first – usually the beds and the kitchen.
If you are moving to Hanover for work
Many of our customers move because of a new job. A job-related move can generally be claimed for tax purposes. Keep the invoice and clarify the details with your tax adviser.
A2 to Hanover: how we organise the transport
Hanover lies around 285 kilometres west of Berlin, directly on the A2. This page is about the transport: route, schedule, vehicle and alternatives for smaller moves. If you would like to know what matters in Hanover after arrival, such as registration, districts and costs, read our page Moving Berlin Hanover.
The A2 as a lorry artery
The A2 is one of the busiest lorry routes in Germany. Between Berlin and Hanover, it passes Magdeburg, Helmstedt, Braunschweig and Peine. Roadworks are almost a permanent feature on this route, and accidents quickly lead to long traffic jams. For us, this means we check the traffic situation the evening before and in the morning and plan in some buffer time. We only use alternative routes via federal roads if they really are faster.
One day with a clear schedule
With a driving time of three to four hours, a move to Hanover can be completed in one day. The prerequisite is an early start: loading from seven or eight o’clock, departure in the late morning, unloading in the afternoon. For larger flats or if furniture is to be assembled, we plan two days. On the first day we load, on the second morning we set off and then have the whole day for unloading and assembly.
Lorry driving bans and weekends
Lorries over 7.5 tonnes are not allowed to drive on Sundays and public holidays, and during the summer holidays additional restrictions apply on Saturdays on certain motorways. If you are planning a move at the weekend, we take these rules into account when choosing the vehicle. A smaller lorry can be the solution in such cases.
Arriving in the city
Hanover is comparatively easy for lorries to drive through; the city has wide main roads and a well-developed expressway ring. In residential areas such as List, Linden or Südstadt, however, the streets are narrow and densely parked. A no-parking zone in front of the new address almost always makes sense there. We apply for it from the City of Hanover on request.
Shared loads for commuters and students
There are many commuters between Berlin and Hanover who set up or give up a second home. Students also often move between the two cities. A shared load is ideal for them: the costs are lower, and small quantities are transported together with other consignments. You give us a time window and we bundle the trips.
What comes along and what does not
For safety reasons, we do not transport certain things in the removal van, such as gas cylinders, petrol cans, paints in large quantities or other hazardous substances. You should also take cash, jewellery and important documents with you yourself. Plants can come along but should be well packed so that the soil does not fall onto other items.
One contact person for both cities
With a long-distance move, you have one contact person with us for the entire route. You do not have to deal with two different companies in Berlin and Hanover. We coordinate dates, no-parking zones and the team, and you always know whom to call.
