Moving Company Berlin Tiergarten

Last updated:

Tiergarten lies in the heart of Berlin and belongs to the district of Mitte. The locality covers far more than the large park: the government quarter, the Hansaviertel with its post-war architecture, the diplomatic quarter, Tiergarten-Süd around Lützowstraße and the area around Potsdamer Platz. Anyone who lives here lives centrally – and anyone moving here has to reckon with events, road closures and a lot of traffic. As your moving company Berlin Tiergarten, we plan your move so that it still runs smoothly.

Moving company Berlin Tiergarten: central living, careful moving

Tiergarten is a locality of contrasts. In the Hansaviertel stand the buildings of the 1957 International Building Exhibition, high-rises and row buildings set in greenery, many with a lift. In Tiergarten-Süd you find period buildings and post-war houses, often with four or five floors. Around Potsdamer Platz and on the edge of the government quarter there are modern residential complexes with underground car parks and a concierge. Each of these addresses needs different planning.

Hansaviertel: modern buildings, their own rules

A large proportion of the buildings in the Hansaviertel are listed. Stairwells, entrance areas and lifts are often preserved in their original condition and are delicate. We protect door frames, corners and floors with suitable material and carry large furniture with particular care. Some lifts in the high-rises are small, so wardrobes have to be dismantled.

Period buildings in Tiergarten-Süd

Around Lützowstraße, Potsdamer Straße and Kurfürstenstraße there are many period buildings with high ceilings and no lift. The streets are busy, and delivery traffic and buses are everywhere. Without a parking restriction zone, it is difficult to find a space in front of the building here.

New builds at Potsdamer Platz and in the government quarter

Newer residential complexes usually have a lift and an underground car park, but their use is regulated. The goods lift often has to be reserved, and underground car parks have height restrictions that are too low for a removal lorry. We clarify these points in advance with the property management or the concierge.

Events, road closures and parking restrictions

Hardly any other locality is affected by closures as often as Tiergarten. Around Straße des 17. Juni, the Brandenburg Gate and the government quarter, major events, demonstrations and state visits take place regularly. On such days, roads are closed and a move can be delayed considerably. That is why, when choosing the date, we check whether larger events are planned and, if necessary, switch to another day.

For moving day, we recommend a parking restriction zone in almost all streets. It has to be applied for at the road traffic authority in good time and set up a few days beforehand. We take care of this for you – more under parking restriction zone Berlin.

Moves for diplomats, expats and commuters

Many people do not move to Tiergarten permanently but for a certain period: for a post at an embassy, an association or a ministry. In that case, the household goods often come from abroad or go back there after a few years. We handle the move within Berlin and also plan international moves. If your flat is furnished, you can store your own furniture with us – information under storage Berlin.

Employers as clients

If your employer pays for the move, a written quote with itemised positions is usually required. Our fixed-price quote lists staff, vehicle, working time, packing, assembly and additional services separately. This makes it easy to check and approve.

What a move in Tiergarten costs

The price depends on the volume of household goods, the floors, the lift, the carrying distances and the additional services. In central locations, the parking restriction and possible waiting times due to traffic play a bigger role than the distance.

Factor Significance in Tiergarten
Parking restriction zone advisable in almost all streets
Lift and underground car park check reservation and height restriction
Listed buildings additional protection for stairwell and entrance
Furniture assembly dismantling and reassembling wardrobes, beds and kitchen
Packing service saves you time, costs additional working hours

Checklist for your move in Tiergarten

  • Check the date for major events and closures
  • Apply for the parking restriction three to four weeks in advance
  • Reserve the goods lift and underground car park with the property management
  • Label boxes by room
  • Transport keys, ID documents and important papers yourself

Packing service and assembly

If time is short, our team packs up your flat in the Hansaviertel or at Lützowplatz and unpacks it again at the new address. We dismantle and reassemble furniture. More under packing service Berlin and assembly service Berlin.

Offices and practices

Around Potsdamer Straße and on the edge of the government quarter, many smaller offices, law firms and practices are based. For them, we plan moves at weekends or in the evening so that business can continue on the next working day. More under office move Berlin.

Tiergarten from north to south: what you should know about your address

The locality stretches from the Spreebogen in the north to the Landwehr Canal in the south, and from the Brandenburg Gate in the east to the border with Charlottenburg in the west. The large park takes up a considerable part of the area; people live mainly on its edges. For a move, it is therefore crucial which side of the park your flat is on, as only a few roads cross the Tiergarten.

Hansaviertel and Bellevue

Between Bellevue S-Bahn station and Hansaplatz, you live in quiet, green surroundings. Many buildings are accessed via small residential streets or paths that are narrow for large vehicles. Sometimes the route from the lorry to the front door is longer than expected because the buildings are set back in the greenery. In this case, we plan dollies and an additional team member.

Tiergarten-Süd and Kulturforum

South of the park lie the diplomatic quarter, the Kulturforum and the residential areas around Lützowstraße. Here, embassies, museums and residential buildings alternate. Special security regulations apply in front of some embassies, and stopping is not permitted everywhere. We clarify this during planning so that there are no surprises on moving day.

Around Potsdamer Platz

At Potsdamer Platz and in the adjacent new-build quarters there are many apartments, often with a concierge and strict house rules. Moves frequently have to be registered there, and some property managements require proof of the moving company’s liability insurance. Just ask us – we will provide the documents.

After the move

Register at the Bürgeramt within two weeks – any Berlin Bürgeramt is responsible for this. If you are moving to Tiergarten from abroad, you may need additional documents. On request, we collect empty boxes and hand over the old flat swept clean.

Moving in summer

In summer, the Tiergarten is full of visitors, and many outdoor events take place around the park. During this time, we plan moves as early in the morning as possible, when the streets are still clear and it is cooler in the stairwell. That keeps the day more pleasant for everyone.

Short distances to the neighbourhood

Many moves from Tiergarten only go a few kilometres, for example to Moabit, Schöneberg or Charlottenburg. The drive is then quickly done; what matters are the floors, the lift and the parking space at both addresses.
