Your long-distance move Berlin–Leipzig: clearly structured and reliable
Why Lion Umzüge?
Lion Umzüge is based in Berlin and specialises in long-distance moves. We are not a local removal company at the destination; instead, we organise and manage your transport from Berlin. For you, this means one dedicated contact person, transparent processes and consistent project coordination from start to handover.
How we handle your long-distance move
A structured process reduces stress and uncertainty. We plan every step with you and implement priority decisions together.
- Initial consultation and survey: inventory and clarification of your wishes.
- Quote and scheduling: tailor-made service recommendations.
- Preparation and packing: suitable materials and safe packing.
- Transport and coordination: loading, securing and transport planning.
- Unloading and handover: placing the furniture and a joint final check.
Services for Berlin–Leipzig
Our services are designed to make your long-distance move efficient. They include professional packing solutions, furniture assembly on site, special transport for bulky items and the organisation of interim storage if required. You receive individual coordination according to your needs.
Preparation and packing
Good packing is the most important protection for your belongings on long routes. We advise you on choosing packing materials, deliver boxes and protective materials on request and take care of packing fragile items completely. Labels and inventory lists make unpacking easier later on.

Practical advice for moving day
On moving day, it is advisable to keep access routes clear and have keys ready in one central place. Label boxes clearly by room and keep a personal emergency bag ready with important documents and essentials. Our crew coordinates the delivery and agrees the final details with you so that the handover goes quickly.
Berlin–Leipzig: a long-distance move that usually takes just one day
At around 190 kilometres via the A9, Leipzig is one of the closest destinations of our long-distance moves. In many cases we load in Berlin in the morning, are in Leipzig around midday and have everything unloaded and assembled by the afternoon. This saves you an overnight stay for the team and makes the move easier to plan. For very large households or difficult access, it may still make sense to plan two days – we discuss this openly during the survey.
Gründerzeit, period buildings and prefabricated blocks
Leipzig has one of the largest stocks of Gründerzeit buildings in Germany. In the Waldstraßenviertel, in Gohlis, in the Südvorstadt or in Connewitz, this means high ceilings, wide but long staircases and often no lift. In Plagwitz and Lindenau there are also refurbished factory buildings and lofts, while Grünau has prefabricated tower blocks with lifts, but small cabins into which a wardrobe will not fit in one piece. When planning, we take into account which furniture needs to be dismantled and how many carriers we need.
A typical one-day move
| Time (example) | Step |
|---|---|
| 7:00 | Start in Berlin, dismantling and loading |
| 11:00 | Departure for Leipzig |
| 13:30 | Arrival, unloading into the labelled rooms |
| 16:00 | Furniture assembly, walk-through with you |
The times are an example for a two- to three-room flat. How long it takes in your case depends on the volume, the floors and the traffic.
What you can prepare yourself
- Pack boxes in good time and label them by room
- Apply to the city of Leipzig for a no-parking zone
- Empty wardrobes and take down lamps if we are not to dismantle them
- Inform the property management at both addresses of the date
On the Berlin side, we organise the no-parking zone in Berlin on request. If you do not have time to pack, you can add our packing service.
Price and alternatives
Because the route is short, travel costs and overnight stays carry less weight than on moves to the south or west. Staff and working time make up the largest share. An overview of cost factors can be found under Moving Company Berlin Costs. Other destinations in Saxony and beyond, such as the long-distance move Berlin–Dresden, can be found in our overview.
Arriving in Leipzig
Register at the Bürgeramt (citizens’ office) within two weeks. Do not forget the mail forwarding order and re-registering your car and the broadcasting licence fee.
Short long-distance: completing the transport to Leipzig in one day
At around 190 kilometres, Leipzig is one of the nearest major cities to which we regularly carry out long-distance moves. This page is about how we organise the transport: route, daily schedule, vehicle and alternatives. What matters after arrival – registration, handing over flats in Leipzig’s period buildings and typical costs – can be found on the page Moving Berlin Leipzig.
The route via the A9
From Berlin, the route goes via the southern Berlin ring road onto the A9 towards Munich and into the city at the Schkeuditz interchange or via the Leipzig-West or Leipzig-Ost exits. The route is well built for lorries and runs through flat country. Traffic jams usually occur on the ring road around Berlin, at roadworks in Saxony-Anhalt and on the approaches to Leipzig. With two to two and a half hours of pure driving time, the route is easy to plan.
A typical day
In most cases, a move to Leipzig can be completed in one day. We start loading in Berlin early in the morning. For a two-room flat we are usually finished by late morning, for larger flats around midday. Then comes the drive, and unloading in Leipzig begins in the early afternoon. If furniture assembly is also booked, the day can stretch into the evening. For large households we prefer to spread the work over two days.
Which vehicle is right?
For a small move, a 3.5-tonne van is sufficient. It is manoeuvrable and copes well even in Leipzig’s narrow side streets. For a fully furnished family flat, we need a larger lorry. The choice depends on the volume, which we determine during the survey or from your inventory list. Sometimes it is cheaper to make two trips with a van than to book one large lorry. We work this out for you.
There and back on the same day
Because the route is short, our team drives back to Berlin in the evening. For you, this means no overnight costs for the crew and simple pricing. At the same time, it is a long day for our team. We make sure that the statutory working and driving times are observed. If it looks like time will be tight, we plan a second crew for assembly or move the assembly to the following day.
Part load between Berlin and Leipzig
Many people commute between Berlin and Leipzig, and many students move between the two cities. For small quantities, such as one room or individual pieces of furniture, a part load is a good option. Your belongings travel together with other consignments. This is cheaper but requires a flexible time window.
No-parking zone in Leipzig
In Leipzig, a no-parking zone is applied for from the city. The lead time and fees differ from Berlin. Especially in Gründerzeit neighbourhoods such as the Südvorstadt, Plagwitz or Gohlis, a no-parking zone makes sense because the streets are densely parked. On request, we take care of both zones, in Berlin and in Leipzig.
What you should check before departure
Before the vehicle sets off, walk through the empty flat once with our team. Are all cupboards empty, has the cellar been cleared, are there still keys or remote controls lying around? This final round only takes a few minutes but saves a second trip to Berlin.
