Moving from Berlin to Munich: well thought out, personal, transparent
Your long-distance moving options
Every long-distance move has individual requirements. We discuss with you whether you would like a full service, prefer partial deliveries or only need the transport itself. Together we find a solution that suits your plans.
Preparation & packing
Careful preparation makes moving day easier and protects your belongings. We advise you on sturdy packing material, the best way to label boxes and the right approach for fragile items.
On request, we professionally pack electronics, art and furniture so that no unnecessary risks arise during transport.
Our process
Transparency is important to us: you receive a clear overview of what happens when. Our standardised process helps you follow every step.
- Initial consultation and survey (on site or digital) to record your belongings.
- Individual agreement on services and preparation of a quote based on your wishes.
- Scheduling, vehicle and route coordination, and consultation with you.
- Professional packing, loading and proper securing of the furniture in the transport vehicle.
- Transport, unloading and any requested assembly services at the destination in Munich, as agreed.

Safe transport and handling of special items
Large or delicate items such as pianos, antiques or floor-to-ceiling shelving systems need special attention. We explain suitable protection and lashing methods and clarify in advance which equipment is best suited.
To avoid surprises, we check access routes, stairwells and possible bottlenecks as early as the planning phase.
Quote & contact
For a specific quote, give us your key details: belongings to be moved, desired services and preferred dates. We check your information and get back to you with a recommendation and a clear description of services.
You can reach us by e-mail or phone; we then discuss the next steps with you personally.

Moving from Berlin to Munich: what matters when planning
A move to Munich is usually a step planned well in advance: a new job, a new flat, a new city. At the same time, the Munich housing market is tight, and flats are often smaller than in Berlin. Before you pack boxes, it is therefore worth taking an honest look at your furniture: will the big sofa fit into the new living room? Do you still need the second wardrobe? Everything that stays in Berlin saves space in the lorry and lowers the price.
Decluttering before the move
- Get a floor plan of the new flat and plan where the furniture will go in advance
- Sell or give away duplicate household appliances
- Have us dispose of old furniture that is not coming with you
- Go through the cellar and attic early on
What we take care of when it comes to disposal can be found on the page clearance Berlin.
From quote to moving in
After the survey, you receive a fixed-price quote that lists all agreed services individually. The no-parking zones in Berlin and Munich should be applied for around four weeks before the date. On moving day, we dismantle and load in Berlin; because of the distance of around 585 kilometres, we usually unload the following day. In Munich, we carry everything into the right rooms and reassemble the furniture.
Moving with your kitchen
Rented flats in Munich do not always come with a fitted kitchen. If you take your kitchen with you from Berlin, we dismantle it, transport it and reassemble it at the destination, provided it fits the new room. Worktops sometimes need to be adapted. More under kitchen assembly Berlin.
Costs and tax
For a job-related move, you can usually claim the costs for tax purposes; ask your tax adviser for advice. An overview of the price factors can be found under moving company Berlin costs. Details on the route and logistics are described on the page long-distance move Berlin–Munich.
Arriving in Munich
Registration takes place within two weeks at the Kreisverwaltungsreferat (district administration department) or a citizens’ office. Appointments there are often scarce, so book early online.
Flat sizes compared
If you move from a Berlin period flat with high ceilings to a new-build flat in Munich, you will quickly notice the difference: tall shelves and wardrobes do not always fit under lower ceilings. So measure not only the floor area but also the ceiling height. Anything that does not fit can be sold, stored or disposed of in Berlin.
Short-notice flat approval
In Munich, confirmation of a flat often comes at short notice. Even so, contact us early so that we can already carry out the survey in Berlin. We then fix the moving date as soon as the tenancy agreement has been signed.
Arriving in Munich: authorities, neighbourhoods and costs
This page helps you plan your move to Munich as a whole: from looking for a flat and registering to the first weeks in your new city. How we organise the transport via the A9, with stages, driving times and part loads, is described on the page long-distance move Berlin Munich.
Registration at the citizens’ office
In Munich, the Kreisverwaltungsreferat, KVR for short, is responsible for residents’ registration. You register at one of the citizens’ offices (Bürgerbüros). You have two weeks after moving in. Appointments are in high demand, so you should book online early. Bring your identity card or passport and the landlord’s confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung). Deregistering in Berlin is not necessary when moving within Germany.
Flat hunting and start of tenancy
The Munich housing market is one of the tightest in Germany. Many newcomers initially only find an interim solution and move into their permanent flat later. In such cases, it can make sense to store the furniture in Berlin and only bring it to Munich once the new tenancy agreement has been signed. We discuss with you which option fits your schedule.
Munich neighbourhoods at a glance
Maxvorstadt, Schwabing, Haidhausen and the Glockenbachviertel are popular, central and correspondingly expensive. Many period buildings there have four or five floors, often without a lift. Sendling, Giesing and Neuhausen are somewhat cheaper and also offer good connections. Families often move to Pasing, Trudering or to municipalities in the surrounding area such as Unterhaching or Germering. For the move, this means we plan staff and vehicle to suit the destination neighbourhood.
Flat handover in Bavaria
When handing over a rented flat in Munich, a detailed report is usually drawn up. Make sure that meter readings for electricity, gas and water are recorded and that any defects you find when moving in are documented in writing. This protects you later when your deposit is returned.
What makes a move to Munich expensive or affordable
The distance of around 585 kilometres usually means two moving days. The costs depend on the volume, the number of helpers, the floors, any no-parking zones and additional services such as packing or assembly. If you pack yourself, are flexible with the date or have only a few pieces of furniture, you save. You can find an overview of the factors on our page moving company Berlin costs.
Living in Munich
Munich is more compact than Berlin, and many journeys can be made by bike. The network of U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trams is dense. The Isar, the English Garden and the proximity to the Alps are a reason for many people to move. After moving in, plan a few quiet days to settle in, explore your surroundings and unpack the last boxes.
A tip about the Oktoberfest: during the two weeks of the Wiesn, hotels are fully booked and the streets around the Theresienwiese are packed. If you move during this time, you should plan your journey early.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
How does the survey work if I cannot be there in person?
We offer digital surveys by video call. You show us the rooms and your belongings live, or you send photos. This allows us to estimate the effort and the services required and to prepare a tailored quote.
Can I take on certain tasks myself, such as packing?
Yes. Please tell us which tasks you would like to do yourself. We will then plan suitable loading space, securing measures and, if necessary, additional equipment so that the transport runs smoothly.
How much does a move from Berlin to Munich cost?
Munich is around 585 kilometres away via the A9. Besides volume and floors, the driving time, the driver’s rest periods and usually an overnight stay are included in the price. You receive a fixed price after the survey. General cost factors under moving company Berlin costs.
How long does a move from Berlin to Munich take?
Usually two days: loading in Berlin, the journey via the A9 and delivery in Munich the next morning. For small flats and with an early start, it can sometimes be done in one long day.
How much notice do I need for a move from Berlin to Munich?
Six to eight weeks’ notice is ideal. In Munich, the no-parking zone in front of the new flat has to be applied for from the city, and that takes time.
How are my belongings insured when moving from Berlin to Munich?
On the journey to Munich, we are liable under the German Commercial Code for, as a rule, 620 euros per cubic metre of loading space. With 600 kilometres of motorway, we recommend additional insurance for valuable items.
Do I need a no-parking zone when moving from Berlin to Munich?
It almost always makes sense at both addresses: in Berlin because of the residential streets full of parked cars, and in Munich, for example in Schwabing or the Maxvorstadt, for the same reason. We take care of both applications. More on the Berlin procedure under no-parking zone Berlin.
