- Unloading and assembly: unloading, professional assembly and placement at your new home.
- Acceptance and debrief: joint inspection and clarification of any open points on site.

Tips for a smooth long-distance move
Label boxes by room and priority so that you have the essentials to hand quickly in Stuttgart. Pack important documents and personal items separately and transport them yourself or in an easily accessible bag.
If possible, dismantle larger furniture before transport. This saves time during assembly and dismantling and reduces the risk of injury when lifting. Before transport, take photos of complex furniture assemblies for reference when reassembling them later.
Moving Berlin–Stuttgart: from the flat approval to your first Kehrwoche
Most people who move to Stuttgart do so for a job – in industry, engineering or one of the region’s many medium-sized companies. Things often happen fast: the job offer arrives, the flat hunt runs in parallel, and the moving date is only fixed a few weeks beforehand. So that you are not put under additional pressure during this phase, we clarify the planning as early as possible and fix the date as soon as your tenancy agreement is signed.
Planning in three phases
| Phase | What we do together |
|---|---|
| Preparation | On-site survey in Berlin, inventory, written fixed price |
| Organisation | Applying for no-parking zones, delivering boxes, coordinating dates with property managers |
| Move | Dismantling and loading in Berlin, a journey of around 630 kilometres, unloading and assembly in Stuttgart the following day |
Smaller flat, same furniture?
Rented flats in Stuttgart are on average more expensive than flats in Berlin, which is why many newcomers to Stuttgart move into fewer square metres. Use the floor plan to check which furniture will fit. Anything that isn’t coming with you can be sold, given away or disposed of by us. Every wardrobe less saves space in the lorry and therefore costs. If you are unsure whether you will need an item later, we can store it in Berlin – find out more under Storage Berlin.
Living in Stuttgart: a few practical tips
Many apartment buildings in Stuttgart have the Kehrwoche: residents take turns cleaning the stairwell and pavement. Ask about the rota when you move in to avoid misunderstandings with your neighbours. Stuttgart is also a city with lots of hills. If you have been doing everything by bike in Berlin, be prepared for hilly routes – something we notice when unloading too, if the lorry cannot stop right outside the door.
Packing without stress
- Start with things you won’t need in the next few weeks
- Write one colour or number per room on the boxes
- Put heavy items in small boxes and light items in large ones
- Photograph appliances with cables before you disconnect them
- Pack a “first night box” with bedding, a towel and chargers
If you don’t have time for this, our packing service can take care of individual rooms or the whole flat.
Costs and route
For Stuttgart, in addition to the usual items such as staff and working time, there are also tolls, fuel and the team’s overnight stay. We explain how this is made up on our Moving Company Berlin Costs page. You can read more about the journey and the particularities of hillside locations on our page about the long-distance move Berlin–Stuttgart.
After the move
Register at the citizens’ office (Bürgerbüro) within two weeks. Also inform your bank, insurance companies, health insurer and employer of your new address, and set up mail forwarding with Deutsche Post. That way, letters still sent to your Berlin address will reach you safely.
Arriving in Stuttgart: authorities, hillside locations and the Kehrwoche
This page shows what matters when you arrive in Stuttgart: registration, residential areas, costs and the little quirks of everyday life in Swabia. You can read how we organise the journey of over 600 kilometres on our Long-Distance Move Berlin Stuttgart page.
Registering at the Bürgerbüro
In Stuttgart you register at one of the citizens’ offices (Bürgerbüros). Here too, the deadline is two weeks after moving in. Appointments can be booked online. ID and the landlord’s confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) are mandatory. You do not need to deregister in Berlin.
Halbhöhe, the valley basin and Stäffele
Stuttgart lies in a valley basin, and many sought-after residential areas are on the slopes, the so-called Halbhöhe. Some houses can only be reached via flights of steps known as Stäffele. For your move this means longer carrying distances and sometimes transferring the load to smaller vehicles. During planning, we ask exactly how your new house can be reached. A photo of the access helps us a lot.
The Kehrwoche
Many rented buildings in Stuttgart still have the Kehrwoche. Tenants take turns being responsible for cleaning the stairwell and pavement. Ask how this is organised in your building when you move in. After the move the stairwell should be clean – we leave it accordingly and remove the protective materials again.
Districts and the surrounding area
Stuttgart-West and the South are popular with young people, with period buildings and lots of cafés. Degerloch, Sillenbuch and the Killesberg are considered quiet, green residential areas. Many families move to Ludwigsburg, Esslingen or Böblingen. For us, it doesn’t really matter where exactly you are going; what matters is the exact address so that we can plan the access.
Cost factors
A move to Stuttgart usually takes two days. The costs depend on the volume, the floors, any hillside locations with long carrying distances and the additional services booked. If you pack and dismantle furniture yourself, you save money. Our Moving Company Berlin Costs page explains the most important factors.
Transferring contracts
Remember electricity, internet, insurance and your bank. If you have a car, you must re-register it at your new address after the move. When moving within Germany you can usually keep your number plate, but the address in the vehicle documents must be changed.
Settling into Swabia
Stuttgart is a city with many vineyards, parks and viewpoints. The people are considered reserved but reliable. After the move, a walk over the hills to see your new city from above is well worth it.
A note about the weather: in the valley basin it can get very hot in summer. If you move in July or August, have drinks ready and don’t leave delicate items such as candles or medication in a hot car.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
How do we prepare delicate or very heavy individual items?
For special items, we carry out a detailed assessment in advance. Based on this assessment, we plan special packaging, lifting equipment and a suitable transport strategy so that delicate or heavy objects arrive safely.
How flexible is scheduling if things change?
Changes are possible but depend on available capacity and processes already agreed. Let us know your wishes early, and we will discuss possible alternatives and usually find a practical solution.
How much does a move from Berlin to Stuttgart cost?
Stuttgart is around 630 kilometres away. In addition to volume and floors, hillside locations play a role: many houses in the Stuttgart valley basin have steep access and stairs. On top of that there is usually an overnight stay. You receive a fixed price. More under Moving Company Berlin Costs.
How long does a move from Berlin to Stuttgart take?
Usually two days: loading in Berlin, driving via Nuremberg, delivery in Stuttgart the following day. For difficult access in Halbhöhe locations, we allow a little more time for unloading.
How much lead time do I need for a move from Berlin to Stuttgart?
Six to eight weeks’ lead time is ideal. That leaves time to clarify access in Stuttgart and apply for the no-parking zone there.
How are my belongings insured during a move from Berlin to Stuttgart?
On the way to Stuttgart, the German Commercial Code (HGB) limits our liability to 620 euros for each cubic metre occupied. For porcelain or a wine collection, we clarify during the survey whether an additional policy is needed.
Do I need a no-parking zone for a move from Berlin to Stuttgart?
In Berlin almost always, and often in Stuttgart too, because many residential streets are narrow and packed with parked cars. We apply for both zones. How this works in Berlin is explained under No-Parking Zone Berlin.
