Based on your information, we draw up a realistic plan for the transport and agree the details with you. Our service is aimed at customers who want a reliable removal partner from Berlin.

How our service works

To keep your long-distance move structured, we follow a proven process:

  1. Initial consultation and needs analysis, by phone or in person in Berlin.
  2. Individual planning of the volume and logistics.
  3. Provision of packing material; professional packing on request.
  4. Safe loading and unloading as well as professional transport.
  5. Placing, setting up and fine adjustment at the destination as agreed.
  6. Final review and handover of the list with inventory and notes.

Your preparation: what matters

Good preparation saves time and protects your belongings. Label boxes by room, draw up an inventory list and keep valuables separate and easily accessible. Measure large furniture and doors so that we can check early whether dismantling is necessary. Let us know early about bulky or unusual items.

Tips for transport and safety

Sturdy boxes, sufficient padding and secure closures are the basis. We pack fragile pieces with additional protective layers; if required, we use special covers for upholstered furniture and mattresses. If necessary, photograph particularly valuable or old furniture before loading so that its condition can be documented. Clear labelling makes targeted unloading in Cologne or Berlin easier.

What customers often ask us before the move

Can you accommodate my preferred date? We discuss available dates with you and look for a suitable solution together. For long-distance moves in particular, early coordination helps so that all logistical steps can be planned.

How do you protect fragile items during transport? For fragile items we use special packaging, blankets and padding as well as suitable restraints in the cargo area. If required, we carry out professional packing for you and document the condition before loading.

Moving from Berlin to Cologne: two days, well planned

The route to Cologne is around 575 kilometres, mostly via the A2 to the Ruhr area and then on via the A1 or A3. For a loaded removal lorry, that is too far to unload and set up calmly on the same day. We therefore spread the move over two days. This leaves enough time at the destination, and the team arrives well rested.

Cologne’s Veedel and their peculiarities

Many people in Cologne live in period buildings: in the Belgian Quarter, in the Südstadt, in Ehrenfeld or in Nippes. Typical features are high ground floors, narrow stairwells and streets where every parking space is taken. In districts such as Sülz or Lindenthal there are also houses with front gardens, while on the right bank of the Rhine, in Mülheim or Kalk, there are many post-war buildings and new residential quarters. Where space is tight, we do not simply resort to furniture lifts – but we plan movers, time and materials so that even heavy wardrobes get upstairs safely.

How we protect your belongings on the journey

  • Furniture individually wrapped in padded blankets, high-gloss surfaces additionally in film
  • Mattresses in protective covers so that they arrive clean
  • Mirrors and pictures upright in suitable boxes
  • Load securing with straps on every level
  • Heavy items at the bottom, light and fragile ones on top

No-parking zones at both addresses

In Cologne as in Berlin, a free space in front of the building is worth its weight in gold. On request we organise this for the Berlin address – more on this on the page No-Parking Zone Berlin. In Cologne you apply for the zone with the city, ideally three to four weeks before the date.

Costs and alternatives

How much your move costs depends mainly on the volume and the carrying distances. An overview of the factors can be found under Moving Company Berlin Costs. If you only have a few pieces of furniture, a part load may make sense. We present other destinations in the Rhineland and throughout Germany on the page Long-Distance Move Berlin.

The first days in Cologne

Register with the city’s customer centre within two weeks and book an appointment for this early. If you have labelled the boxes by room beforehand, we will put them straight in the right place – then the kitchen and bedroom can be used on the very first evening.

From the Spree to the Rhine: how we organise the transport to Cologne

This page focuses on the long haul: how your household goods get from Berlin to Cologne, which route we take and how we divide up the days. What you need to take care of after arriving in Cologne and how to settle in well there is explained on our page Move Berlin Cologne.

Route via the A2

The main route runs along the A2 through Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony, past Magdeburg, Braunschweig, Hanover and Bielefeld, into the Ruhr area and from there on to Cologne. The A2 is one of the most important east–west routes and is used by many lorries. Roadworks and traffic jams are not uncommon, especially between Hanover and the Ruhr area. Before departure we check the current traffic situation and choose an alternative route if necessary.

Two days are the rule

For around 575 kilometres, a removal lorry needs six to eight hours of pure driving time, depending on traffic. Mandatory breaks come on top of that. A move to Cologne in one day is therefore only realistic for very small quantities. The usual approach is: on the first day we load in Berlin, on the second day we set off early and unload in Cologne in the afternoon. For large households, the vehicle can also drive overnight if there are two drivers on board.

Ruhr area and Cologne ring

The most critical part of the route comes at the end: the Ruhr area with its motorway junctions and the Cologne motorway ring. Here the time of day decides between half an hour and two hours of driving. We plan the arrival, where possible, after the morning rush hour and before the evening rush hour. That sounds like a narrow window, but in practice it works well.

Part load heading west

If you are only moving a few pieces of furniture or one room, we check whether a part load is possible. Your belongings then travel together with other consignments towards the Rhineland. This lowers the costs considerably, but requires some flexibility regarding the delivery date. You can find information on this on our page about part loads.

Safely packed for the long journey

On a route of this length, good packing is essential. Crockery is wrapped individually, glasses stand upright in compartment boxes, and electrical appliances travel in their original packaging where possible or in padded boxes. Furniture is protected with blankets and strapped down in the vehicle. We load in such a way that the things you need first in Cologne are loaded last and therefore come out first.

Communication on the way

During the journey we stay in contact with you. You will find out when we have set off, where we are and when we expect to arrive in Cologne. If a traffic jam delays the arrival, we will let you know early. This way you always know where you stand.

A note on the date: around Carnival, many things are different in Cologne. Streets are closed, parking spaces are taken and lots of people are out and about. If you are flexible, do not schedule your move during the Carnival days.
