Long-distance move Berlin ↔ Nuremberg with Lion Umzüge Berlin – planning, transport, handover
A long-distance move between Berlin and Nuremberg places special demands on planning, load securing and coordination. Lion Umzüge is based in Berlin and professionally accompanies your change of home from planning to handover at the destination. We expressly point out that we are not a local removal company in Nuremberg or at the destination, but carry out your long-distance move reliably as a Berlin service provider.

Individual planning for your long-distance move
At the start, we clarify the scope of your move together: number of rooms, particularly bulky pieces of furniture, access situations and any wishes for additional services. On this basis, we draw up a realistic plan that takes your priorities into account and identifies possible bottlenecks at an early stage.
Careful packing and protection
We handle delicate items with particular care. Every piece of furniture is protected professionally, fragile items are packed separately and boxes are labelled by contents and room. This way you keep track of everything and the risk of transport damage is significantly reduced.
Our process
- Preliminary survey and assessment of requirements on site or by video call.
- Specific coordination of services (packing service, dismantling, number of helpers required).
- Careful packing and secure loading of the transport vehicle.
- Transport along the route with coordinated logistics and communication.
- Unloading at the destination and help with assembly on request.

Safe transport and handover
In long-distance haulage, load securing and clear agreements are what matter. Before loading, you receive information about the process on moving day so that everything runs in a coordinated way. At the destination, we ensure orderly unloading and help you with reassembly or positioning of your furniture according to your instructions.
Moving to Nuremberg: what you should know about the route
Berlin and Nuremberg are around 440 kilometres apart, almost entirely on the A9 via Leipzig and Hof. The route is well developed, but has some inclines in the Franconian Forest and occasional snow in winter. For a smaller flat, we can manage loading, the journey and unloading in one long day. For larger households, we plan two days so that there is enough time at the destination to assemble the furniture.
Living in Nuremberg: old town, Gründerzeit and new builds
Within the city wall, the lanes are narrow, many houses are old and have steep stairs. A large lorry cannot get everywhere there, and some areas are closed to through traffic. In districts such as St. Johannis, Gostenhof or the Südstadt, there are predominantly apartment buildings from the Gründerzeit and post-war periods, and on the outskirts terraced houses and new builds. When we know exactly where you are moving to, we plan the right vehicle and clarify whether we need an access permit.
Checklist for the last two weeks
- Apply to the city of Nuremberg for a no-parking zone
- Label boxes by room, keep heavy boxes small
- Defrost and dry the fridge the evening before
- Fit the washing machine with its transport lock
- Pack important papers, keys and charging cables separately
- Set up mail forwarding with Deutsche Post
Delicate furniture on the long route
Solid wood furniture, glass display cabinets or a piano require special care over 440 kilometres. We pad each piece individually, secure it with straps to the lorry wall and load so that nothing can slip. For instruments, we offer a dedicated piano transport, for which we work with special equipment.
Keeping costs predictable
The price depends mainly on the volume. If you sort things out before the move, you save space in the lorry and therefore money. You can find guide values by flat size on the Moving company Berlin costs page. Information on other destinations in Bavaria and throughout Germany is available under Long-distance move Berlin, and if you are moving on to Munich, read our page on the long-distance move Berlin–Munich.
After arrival
Within two weeks, you register with the residents’ registration office in Nuremberg. On request, we take empty boxes and padding material back with us so that your hallway is quickly clear.
Common mistakes with long-distance moves – and how to avoid them
The most common mistake is starting too late. Anyone who only begins packing a week before the date ends up packing hectically and unsorted. Start with books, decorations and clothing you do not need at the moment, and pack the kitchen and bathroom last. A second classic: boxes that are too heavy. A full large-format book box is hardly possible to carry and tears easily. Use small boxes for books and fill large boxes with light things such as bed linen. And thirdly: keys, contracts and medication do not belong in the lorry, but in your own bag.
A9 to Franconia: transport planning for the move to Nuremberg
Nuremberg is around 440 kilometres south of Berlin and can be reached almost entirely via the A9. This page explains how we organise the long route: route, daily planning, choice of vehicle and alternatives. How you settle in in Nuremberg, which official formalities are involved and which costs are typical can be read on the Move Berlin Nuremberg page.
The route through several federal states
From Berlin, the A9 takes you through Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and Bavaria. Notable points are the Schkeuditz interchange near Leipzig, the Hermsdorf interchange and the inclines in the Franconian Forest. For a loaded lorry, the mountain stretches between Hof and Bayreuth are noticeable, the speed drops and the journey takes longer. We then reach the city via the exits in the east and south.
Schedule with a buffer
The pure driving time is five to six hours. A one-day move is possible for small flats if loading starts early. For a normal flat, we recommend two days. On the first day, loading takes place in Berlin; on the second day, the van leaves early and reaches Nuremberg in the late morning. This leaves enough time for unloading and assembly without the team carrying things up to the fourth floor tired in the evening.
Keeping an eye on driving times
The statutory driving and rest times apply to our drivers. After four and a half hours of driving, a break is mandatory, and the daily driving time is limited. On the route to Nuremberg, this means at least one longer break on the way. We plan these breaks so that they take place at service areas with secure lorry parking spaces, so that your belongings are not left unattended in a dark car park.
Old town and districts
Nuremberg’s old town within the city wall is only partly accessible to large lorries. There are pedestrian zones, narrow lanes and delivery time windows. If your new flat is located there, we clarify with the city in advance whether a special permit is required. In districts such as Gostenhof, St. Johannis or Maxfeld, access is easier, but parking spaces are scarce.
Part load to Franconia
For smaller moves, a part load is a good alternative to your own lorry. Your furniture and boxes are bundled with other consignments heading south. Because the A9 is a main route, opportunities arise here regularly. Ask us about available capacity in your time frame.
Erlangen, Fürth and the surrounding area
Many customers do not move directly to Nuremberg, but to Fürth, Erlangen, Schwabach or a municipality in the surrounding area. For us this makes little difference, as the distances are short. What matters is that we know the exact address so that we can plan the access and the no-parking zone.
What counts in the end
A long-distance move is a success when everything arrives intact and you can sleep in your own bed in the evening. To achieve this, we plan every step and keep you up to date during the journey.
A note for the Advent season: around the Christkindlesmarkt, the old town is particularly crowded and many access roads are restricted. Anyone moving to Nuremberg in December should bear this in mind when choosing a date.
