How your move works

A structured process reduces stress. After an initial consultation, we draw up an individual plan that addresses your volume and your wishes. The list below shows the typical steps we go through with you.

  1. Initial contact and needs analysis with personal advice.
  2. Quote and scheduling, including clarification of access and parking options.
  3. Packing, labelling and load securing by experienced staff.
  4. Transport planning, route coordination and regular status updates.
  5. Unloading, placement and, on request, furniture assembly at the destination.
  6. Final check and debrief.

Tips for preparing your move

Start sorting out early: reduce clutter and sort systematically by category. Label moving boxes by room and contents. Make a list of the most important documents you want to keep to hand. This way you stay in control and have time for what matters.

Moving Berlin–Romania: route, duration and formalities

Romania is a large country, and distances vary accordingly. From Berlin it is around 1,100 kilometres to Timișoara, about 1,300 to Cluj-Napoca and around 1,750 kilometres to Bucharest. The route usually leads through the Czech Republic or Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. Including the drivers’ rest periods, the transport takes two to three days, and longer to Bucharest and the east of the country.

Return or new beginning

Many of our customers who move to Romania have family there and are returning after years in Berlin. They often move into a house that is already partly furnished. It then makes sense to think carefully about which furniture from Berlin is really needed. We can dispose of everything that stays behind – see house clearance Berlin.

Formalities

  • No customs duty on household goods within the EU
  • Deregistration at the Bürgeramt (citizens’ office) in Berlin
  • Registration of residence according to Romanian rules
  • Vehicle: clarify re-registration and licensing in Romania

Access and types of housing

In the large cities, many people live in apartment blocks with lifts, although the cabins are small. In old towns such as Sibiu or Brașov, the lanes are narrow. In the countryside, access roads are sometimes unpaved. Send us photos and a description, and we will plan the right vehicle or a transfer to a smaller one.

Full lorry or part load?

For a large household with a fixed date, a dedicated transport is worthwhile. If only part of the household goods is coming along or the date is flexible, a part load can be considerably cheaper.

Costs

Fuel, tolls in several countries, overnight stays and the return journey are significant items. The page moving company Berlin costs shows how we calculate a fixed price; you can find other countries under international moves Berlin. For the neighbouring country, there is the page moving Berlin–Bulgaria.

Moving to Romania: route, registration and settling in

Many people move between Germany and Romania, whether to return home, for a job in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca or Timișoara, or for retirement. As an EU country, Romania can be reached without customs, and since joining the Schengen area, regular border controls no longer apply. Here we explain what you should bear in mind when planning.

A long route through Central Europe

From Berlin it is around 1,900 kilometres to Bucharest, about 1,300 to Timișoara and around 1,500 to Cluj-Napoca. The route leads through the Czech Republic or Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. For a lorry, that means three to four days, with tolls in several countries. In Romania itself, not all routes are built as motorways, so cross-country journeys take correspondingly longer. For smaller households, a part load is often the cheapest solution.

Registering in Romania

In Berlin, you deregister at the Bürgeramt. EU citizens staying in Romania for longer than three months register with the Romanian immigration authority and receive a certificate. Romanian nationals register their new residence with the competent registration authority. Find out in advance which documents are required.

Living in Romanian cities

In Bucharest and other large cities, many people live in apartment blocks with lifts, often from the seventies and eighties. New builds with underground car parks and property management are becoming more common. In historic old towns such as Sibiu or Brașov, the lanes are narrow. In the countryside, many houses have large plots with unpaved access roads.

Family and homecoming

Many of our customers move back to Romania after years in Germany. Often it is not only about their own household but also about furniture for family and relatives. We plan the volume together and advise you on what is worth taking. Some things are cheaper to buy new in Romania than to transport over such a long distance.

Costs

The costs depend on distance, volume and destination. A part load reduces the costs considerably for small and medium quantities. More on our page international moves Berlin.

Arriving in Romania

Romania is a country of diverse landscapes, from the Carpathians to the Danube Delta. The cities have become modern, and the hospitality is proverbial.

What needs to be done in Germany

Before the move, you should cancel or transfer contracts in Germany: electricity, internet, mobile phone, insurance and memberships. Inform your health insurance, the pension insurance and the Familienkasse (family benefits office) if you receive child benefit. If you have worked in Germany, some of your entitlements may continue to exist after the move. Get advice on this. A mail forwarding order abroad ensures that important post reaches you in the first few months.

Papers for the journey to Romania

Romania is part of the EU, so customs formalities for used household goods generally do not apply. Nevertheless, a simple list of your furniture and boxes should travel with the load, along with a copy of your ID and the address and telephone number of a contact person at the destination. It is best to carry valuable documents such as birth certificates, diplomas or land register extracts yourself in your hand luggage. We agree with you who will be on site on arrival and who has the keys.
