Our strength lies in organising and carrying out moves from Berlin.

Your long-distance move with personal planning from Berlin
Individual advice before the move
At the start, we listen carefully: which items are particularly fragile? Is there bulky furniture, or are there special requirements regarding stairs, lift use or parking? The preliminary discussion lays the foundation for realistic planning and reduces surprises on moving day.
Transport safety and packing
We explain suitable types of packing for your valuables and furniture. Whether padding, boxes or special protection for pictures and electronic devices — the right preparation protects against transport damage. If required, we advise on materials and sensible labelling.
How your long-distance move works
For clarity and transparency, we describe below the typical process, which we adapt together with you:
- On-site survey and inventory in Berlin, including documentation of special requirements.
- Creation of an individual moving plan with scheduling and communication of relevant information.
- Proper packing and labelling of the goods on site.
- Safe loading into the vehicle, following protection and weight principles.
- Transport to the destination, careful unloading and setting up as requested.

Coordination of dates and communication
Good availability and transparent agreements are essential for long-distance moves. We make sure that you always know which steps come next, and we inform you about time frames, delivery instructions and possible access situations at the destination.
Special items and custom solutions
Delicate instruments, antiques or large furniture require special measures. We examine the best way to handle them and propose individual solutions so that fragile pieces can be transported safely.
After the move: help with settling in
After the move, we help you with unloading and, on request, place furniture in the agreed location. Our aim is for you to settle in quickly and have the most important items to hand straight away.

Contact and quote
We will be happy to prepare a tailor-made quote for your long-distance move. Tell us your wishes and any special features — we will get back to you promptly with a clear overview of the next steps.
Long-distance moves from Berlin: destinations, distances and planning
A long-distance move differs from a move within Berlin mainly in three respects: the journey takes longer, the load has to be secured much better, and you often do not yet know your way around the destination address yourself. That is why we plan every long-distance move individually – depending on the route, the size of the flat and access at both addresses. The following overview shows how we typically schedule common destinations.
| Destination | Approx. distance | Usual planning |
|---|---|---|
| Leipzig, Dresden | 190–200 km | usually one day |
| Hamburg, Hanover | 285–290 km | one day, two for large households |
| Bremen, Nuremberg, Dortmund | 390–490 km | one long day or two days |
| Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt | 550–575 km | two days |
| Munich, Stuttgart, Mannheim | 585–630 km | two days |
The distances are rounded road kilometres. How long it takes in each individual case also depends on traffic, roadworks and the statutory driving and rest times for professional drivers.
Why two days are often the better choice
Many customers would like the move to be completed in one day. For routes over 400 kilometres, however, we usually recommend two days. The reason: after loading in Berlin and several hours of driving, there is hardly any time left at the destination to unload carefully and assemble furniture. With a two-day move, the team arrives well rested and assembly takes place without rush. You can also travel there in a relaxed manner yourself.
Full move, part load or partial move?
- Full move: your own lorry, your own team, a fixed date – worthwhile from about a two-room flat upwards
- Part load: your furniture travels on a trip that is already planned – cheaper, but with a more flexible date; more on this under Part Load Berlin
- Partial move: only selected pieces such as a piano or heirlooms are transported
What determines the price of a long-distance move
In addition to the volume and the number of movers, fuel, tolls and, where applicable, the team’s overnight stay play a role in a long-distance move. Additional services such as furniture assembly, packing service or kitchen dismantling are added to this. We explain how moving prices are made up on the page Moving Company Berlin Costs. If you are moving abroad, you will find the special features under international moves.
A practical tip
Before the move, photograph the entrance, the stairwell and the street at your new address – or ask your landlord to send you photos. This allows us to assess much better whether a large lorry will fit in front of the building, how long the carrying distance is and which furniture we need to dismantle beforehand.
Long-distance move or settling in: which page will help you
For many cities, our website has two types of page. The long-distance move pages describe the route itself: route, driving time, stages, part loads and what to bear in mind on the way. The pages on moving to a city describe arriving: districts, dealings with the authorities, typical residential buildings and the process on site. If, for example, you are moving to Munich, you will find the logistics under Long-Distance Move Berlin–Munich and everything about arriving in your new city on the corresponding city page. This page is about long-distance moves in general.
Deadlines and re-registration
In Germany you must register with the registration office of your new city within two weeks of moving in. Deregistering in Berlin is not necessary for a move within Germany; the new registration office takes care of that. Many citizens’ offices allocate appointments online, in larger cities often with a waiting time. So book your appointment early. To register you need your ID and a landlord’s confirmation of residence (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).
If the move is job-related
If you are moving because of a new job, you may be able to claim the costs for tax purposes under certain conditions. Some employers also contribute directly to the moving costs. So keep the quote and invoice safe. On request, we will issue an invoice that lists all services individually.
Key handover in two places
With a long-distance move, moving out and moving in often do not take place on the same day. Clarify early when you have to hand over the old flat and from when the new one is available. If there is a gap in between, we can leave the furniture in the vehicle for a few days or put it into storage. If the old flat only has to be handed over after the move, you can come back at your leisure and hand it over clean.
What belongs in your own car
On long routes it makes sense to take certain things with you yourself: ID documents, contracts, certificates, jewellery, laptop, chargers and medication. Add a few items of clothing, bed linen, towels and tools for the first night. This way you are independent if you arrive before the lorry or something takes a little longer.
Making use of return journeys
After a long-distance move, our vehicles drive back to Berlin. If you are flexible with the date, a part load on such a trip can be an inexpensive solution, especially for smaller quantities.
How early you should book
For a long-distance move, we recommend contacting us four to eight weeks before your preferred date. At the end of the month, during the summer holidays and on public holidays, many vehicles are booked up early. If your date has not yet been fixed, we can still carry out the survey and prepare a quote. We then set the exact day as soon as you have your tenancy agreement in hand.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
How does the on-site survey for a long-distance move work?
The survey can take place in person or digitally. We record the quantity, dimensions and any particular challenges on site in Berlin and document everything in order to prepare a suitable quote.
Does Lion Umzüge also help with setting up at the destination?
Yes, we help with unloading and, on request, with setting up the furniture. Please mention your requirements during planning so that we can schedule the necessary resources.
How much does a long-distance move from Berlin cost?
For a long-distance move, volume and kilometres count above all: Hamburg or Leipzig is considerably cheaper than Munich or Cologne. Floors, carrying distances and possibly an overnight stay for the team are added to this. After the on-site survey you receive a fixed price. Guide figures for typical routes are given on the page Moving Company Berlin Costs.
What does a long-distance move with Lion Umzüge include?
On-site survey, planning of the route and loading day, no-parking zones at both addresses, packing on request, furniture dismantling, transport and reassembly at the destination. We carry out long-distance moves within Germany and to many European countries.
How soon can a long-distance move from Berlin be scheduled?
For a long-distance move you should allow six to eight weeks’ lead time, because the trip has to be coordinated with driving time, the driver’s rest periods and the no-parking zone at the destination. For smaller quantities, a part load on a route that is already planned is often possible at short notice too.
Can I combine several services for a long-distance move from Berlin?
Yes. On long routes in particular, the packing service is worthwhile, because professionally packed boxes survive the journey better. You can also book assembly service, clearance before moving out and storage for gaps between moving out and moving in.
How are my belongings insured during a long-distance move from Berlin?
For long-distance moves, the German Commercial Code (HGB) limits our liability to 620 euros for each cubic metre occupied – regardless of how long the route is. For high-quality electronics or paintings we recommend supplementary insurance with a list of valuables.
